artlover - i'd greatly appreciate the discount code. is this a certificate you received from nwa/klm that offers discounts flying within certain zones in the us and also from zones in the us to europe? if so, i've not received one of these in almost a year and have been hopeful i'd receive one that i could use for an april/may trip to europe.

thank you so much in advance!

BudgetQueen - The certificate I received in the mail contained a reference code and then a unique tracking number at the bottom to ensure that certificate is used only once. I'm using the certificate for travel to Prague in April, or I'd email you the information.

How do you qualify for this discount certificate? I just booked a flight on NW out of Syracuse and sure would like to be able to get a discount next time! There never seems to be a bargain out of Syracuse!

katybird,
I'm not sure how you get them if they don't just mail them with a package of other coupons (which we get all the time, though we don't always get these particular coupons with them.) I'm not sure if there's a way you can sign up for these kinds of mailings, but maybe someone here in Fodors knows.

Anyone?

The coupon pack mailings may be the only way some people encounter these coupons. I recently received one with my MCI long distance bill (for which I receive miles); with a WorldPerks Visa card statement and in several mailings to various family members, who fly less frequently but have FF accounts. On occasion, Northwest will make them available in an electronic format to people on their e-mail list. Keep in mind that the number of seats that will be sold on a given flight at the coupon rate is limited so if you happen to have plans that fit the terms, it's best not to wait too long. The zone fares are not always the lowest fares available but for some itineraries, the savings can be substantial.

Flyboy, I agree that the rate on these coupons isn't always the best rate available (though in some cases it's very good).

Am interested to know more about MCI miles for long distance. Which airline program do you get them with and how did you sign up?

We signed up for long distance miles with Sprint for Alaska Airlines over a year ago and Sprint still hasn't given them to us! AND they're still offering this promotion on Alaska Airlines website! Am in the process of calling one more time (have already written to no avail) and then faxing the information to Alaska Airlines, but it's been a real pain! If I don't get some satisfaction soon, am thinking of filing a complaint with the Atorney General's office.

artlover, here's the deal from the nwa.com website:

RECEIVE 2,000 WORLDPERKS BONUS MILES WITH MCI

Call 1-800-356-1621 today to learn how you can get great low rates with MCI and earn up to 2,000 WorldPerks Bonus Miles - 1,000 a month for your first two months with MCI! Plus, we will add 5 more WorldPerks miles to your account for every dollar you spend with MCI (excluding taxes, credits and surcharges). For complete details and to join, call us at 1-800-356-1621 or sign up online at www.mci.com/nwa

Terms and Conditions:
Existing MCI customers are not eligible for this Bonus Mile offer, but may receive 5 miles for every dollar spent with MCI. 2,000 Bonus Miles offer will be awarded as 1,000 miles per month for each of your first two months as an MCI customer. Limit one per MCI enrollment bonus per program per account. You must remain an MCI customer through the time of fulfillment in order to receive miles. Please allow 6 - 8 weeks for miles to be posted to your WorldPerks account. Miles earned are subject to Federal Excise Tax surcharge not to exceed $0.0013 per mile. Other terms apply.

From time to time, there have been far better sign-up bonuses and it may be worth waiting for one (in fact, I think this is the leanest sign-up bonus I've ever seen). You might want to monitor www.flyertalk.com to alert you to better deals.

(FWIW, I've heard other tales of Sprint not delivering on the mileage deals.)

Thank you Flyboy for the information. Since I'm still arguing with Sprint, I'll have to wait, but will check that out soon.

If anyone has one of the Northwest/KLM coupon codes and they are not going to use it, I would really appreciate it if you could send it my way. I have been looking into tickets to going to visit my family in Canada and as it is I can't afford it right now. Thanks in advance.

Happiness,
Sean

I also need a certificate number if anyone has one. I have misplaced mine and the price of the trip I need to take is outrageous.
