Non-stops to Milan from East Coast?
Which East Coast gateway cities have non-stops to Milan on which lines? Apparently Delta has one from JFK, but it says the flight is "operated by Alitalia." Has anyone taken that flight? How is Alitalia's service, accommodations compared to "standard" Delta service? Any other East Coast cities with non-stop service to Italy?

PHL to ROM nonstop on US |
We took the flight from Milan to JFK Alitalia on Sept. 28th, 2001 (!). The plane was 3/4 empty.
The lady in the seats across the middle had 2 children with her. She was ALbanian Muslim, married to an Egyptian, and was taking her two boys to meet their dad in NYC. I don't know how she made out at customs... The younger boy was spoilt rotten and the flight attendants made no effort to ask the mother to get him under control (he was about 4 or 5). He screamed, yelled, kicked the seat in front of him, spread his meal round the floor (don't blame him there...) opened the tray during taxi and takeoff. Finally they gave him a soother! (?) Oh well, what else could they do? Otherwise, the food was awful and the flight attendants sullen and unhelpful. Nothing terribly different than other airlines, but certainly on the bottom of the scale. However, we found the price was good. We booked open jaw through Italiatour, landed in Rome and flew out of Milan. The price was not much worse than a regular flight, and included 5 days in a Rome 3-star. Plus, we got a good deal on some other hotels in other cities. |
Continental does Milan-Newark, Alitalia is absolutly a fine airline doing the same. I've flown them both numerous times, and find them pretty much equal. American does Chicago-Milan. Look on expedia to see who flies direct. Ciao, Melissa

Delta flies non-stop from Atlanta to Milan. Delta equipment and crew when I've done it, though I suppose that could change. I've not flown Alitalia transatlantic, but they've done a good job on domestic flights: planes WAY cleaner than U.S. carriers these days, crew pleasant and polite. Delta also flies non-stop to Rome from Atlanta, and operates non-stop flights between JFK and Venice (temporarily suspended, but I think they're operating again); Delta equipment and crew.

We flew non-stop Dulles-Milan on United. That was 2 years ago, but I would think they still have the same route.
