Newark layover

I will flying from Grand Cayman to BWI and our layover is in Newark. We have a 1 1/2 hour layover and I was wondering if that will be enough time to clear customs and imigration. Is Newark airport a busy airport?

Newark is a busy airport. You don't say what airline or airlines you are flying on, the time or what day of the week you are travelling so it's hard to give you a definitive answer. However, generally speaking a 1 1/2 connecting time is about the minimum you should have to clear customs & immigration and make your way to the departure gate for your connecting flight. I'd allow more time if you are connecting to a different airline as you may have to change terminals.

Sorry i did not think about giving the airline and travel day and time.

We are traveling on Continental Airlines and we are arriving on a Sat in June around 6pm.

Does Continental Airlines usually arrive and depart out of the same terminal?

EWR is a big airport. Fortunately, both of your flights should operate out of Terminal C.

Personally, I find the customs and baggage recheck thing to be a huge hassle, as it is often around 45 minutes between when you get off the plane and when you get your bags, not leaving you a great deal of time to catch your next flight. Because of it, I would think that 1-1/2 hours is tight, but possible. If you are going carry-on only, then your chances improve.

I prefer 2+ hours at EWR for international transfers. At that time of the day, immigration/customs shouldn't be that busy, as all of CO's European arrivals have come back earlier. However, they also have lots of evening departure across the Atlantic at night, so security line can be pretty long.
