New York to Vienna?

Checking out airlines/routes from New York/Newark area to Vienna, Austria. I see Austrian Airlines flies the route, but they get poor reviews for old equipment. Are there other carrier that fly this route? Or, would you recommend flying via another city, with one stop? I have a ton of miles on American and a good number on Delta, and might want to use these, if possible. Thank you!

Delta flies nonstop to Vienna from Atlanta and I thought from JFK too?

The only airline that flies this route is Austrian. Delta only serves it from Atlanta.

To be honest, I care less about flying non-stop than most people, but I still can't find much of a reason, from a comfort perspective, to go with someone else, especially if you were flying in coach. Frankly, the other obvious options are not much better.

But, this is only from a comfort perspective. I would probably stick with my preferred carrier, to top up my mileage or status, or in order to use them to get into a better cabin.

With that in mind, I would look into AA. You could go via Heathrow, connecting with BA, or via Brussels, connecting to Brussels airlines.

DL via Atlanta would be another option, but they largely fly the same plane (767-300ER) that you are trying to avoid with Austrian. But, Air France, via Paris would be an option. KLM would be another option, but I find their long-haul coach product to be quite poor.

OS uses the 767-300ER for JFK-VIE. Those planes were manufactured from 1991 to 2000. Not older than DL's.

Actually, the OS business class looks reasonably OK, and not too expensive. After searching all options, I think I'll go with them. It is tempting to use my AA ff miles in business or first class, but I really don't feel like changing at LHR, when all is said and done. Also, the OS times are ideal.

Well, if you are going biz class, then I see even less reason to switch from OS. Their biz class (esp. the food) gets pretty solid reviews.

I flew Austrian airlines from Vienna to Dulles last this past Dec. and I loved it. Thought the food was great, kind of jam packed but aren't all planes these days.

If it's business class, definitely go with Austrian. It's been a few years since I flew them (IAD-VIE in an A330), but I'd describe their business class (they don't have first class) as a business class seat with first class food, wine and service.

Went to Vienna from JFK via Austrian Airlines. We were in Economy class. No problems; food fine for airlines. However, the individual entertainment units didn't always work so well (for the games).

Don't see any reason to take a flight that transfers at Heathrow - yikes who would want to do that if not necessary?
