New Orleans trip report
First realize we’re not really into the night life of the city, we just like to visit and people watch so I apologize if this sounds boring to you - for us, it was great fun.
We got to NOLA about noon on Tuesday, and were able to check into the Ramada Inn on Bourbon immediately. We had a Bourbon Street room with a balcony so that meant we pretty much would get no sleep at night but we were already aware of that fact. A quick trip to the Rouse’s store for liquids, stop at Mango Mango for a beer and a daiquiri and the people watching from the balcony started.
The first night we ate at Acme Oyster House, DH had an oyster po’boy, I had a bowl of sausage/chicken gumbo and we split 6 char-boiled oysters. Everything was wonderful. Back to the hotel for balcony sitting.
Next morning it was Café du Monde for beignets to go - we walked up to the river and dropped sugar all over the seats and each other. We did some walking around Jackson Square, another trip to Mango Mango, and off to Harrah’s. Luckily, DH was on and we came out ahead. Early dinner was at YoMama’s for the best burgers ever. People watching time (now you all realize that people watching goes hand-in-hand with liquid beverages, don‘t you?). Later that night we split a Lucky Dog - yeah, I know, they are supposed to be nasty, but they also have a reputation as a hangover cure and we just plain like them.
Back to Café du Monde the next morning and more walking around. We took a streetcar ride on St. Charles and were so impressed with the houses along the route! It was a great way to spend an afternoon. Time to people watch. Off to Cajun Cabin for dinner, DH stuck with his po’boy and I had a sampler plate that included shrimp etouffee, jambalaya, red rice and beans, and shrimp remoulade. Everything was very good once again.
The next morning we had to leave by 5 AM so that was it for us - we just love the city and are already considering another trip next June. For those who are interested, I found 2-for-1 coupons for Mango Mango on their website, and a buy one entrée get the second for half price for Cajun Cabin at theirs.
