Need help with managing San Diego-Paris flight..
 

Flying from San Diego to Boston .. AA .plane arrives 5:35PM
(Luggage checked as we are elderly). Plane leaves for Paris 6:40PM

Is this doable?
would checked luggage make it? and would we?

My husband hates going through ORD or DFW,hates layovers in airports, and I need some help with this. Is there any other gateway city that would be easier both in time and managing luggage.

AA uses only 1 terminal in Boston: Terminal B. It is a small terminal and takes only 5 minutes to walk from one end of the terminal to the other end. When you arrive from San Diego, once you arrive at the gate, all you need to do is look at the departure screen and check the Gate # for your Paris flight. Then walk to that gate. You don't need to go through security at all.

Yes, it is doable and your checked luggage will make it; unless your incoming flight is significantly delayed.

The reverse is not true: AA's international flights arrive at the Int'l terminal; but that doesn't concern you when you are flying OUT to Europe.

Lexington and Wayland so we have someone in case we get stranded.

and if so would our luggage go without us?...

We did the 55 min layover out of LAX through Logan. Our plane was :25 min late and we lost our gate. We ran & got to the gate as they were closing the doors, and later found our luggage made it to.

And the elderly couple that was behind FrankS weren't able to run and by the time they got to the gate the door was closed and they didn't make the flight. Later they found out their luggage like that of FrankS, did make the flight.

Considering that you have been planning this trip for over three years you might want to give some more time for the connection so that you are sure to make it.

I'm wondering what the OP means by 'elderly.'

The key to all these "is this enough time" question is if the flight is on time arriving - and who knows. You can check on-time percentages and some airports at some times of day or days of week are worse than others.

DH will have to balance dislike of long layovers with reasonable connection times. I personally would not consider an hour enough time to make an international connection - no matter what happened to luggage, terminals, etc - since it all hinges on if the first plane is one time and there are limited number of overseas flights each day from almost any airport.

OP has indicated her husband is in his 80's I think. That seems to be the "elderly" description.

Checked luggage has made lots of flights I missed so I wouldn't worry about the luggage.

I also seem to recall you are flying Business which means you will be First Class on the flight to Boston which will help with departure. You can request assistance to the gate if you think it might be needed. Call AA after you book the ticket and ask that it be noted. (Then remind them when you check in and again on the plane!)

Of course yes, but all depends on different factors:

- month of travel (summer or winter schedule after end of oct ?)
- day of the week of your travel
- your preferred airline

Assuming your preferred airlines is AA, another possible gateway might be:

JFK, 1h 45mins layover

with other airlines:

CVG (Cincinnati), DL+DL, 1h 14 mins layover
IAH, (Houston), CO+DL, 1h 24 mins layover

but also IAD, DTW, LAX, SFO, ATL......
