need help getting better seat
 

I am not able to sit comfortably for long periods. Have to fly EWR to SAN in November. Don't have ff built up on that airline.

Do I have to get 1st class??? to get more comfortable or are there business classes? I am not sure how to check on seat guru as they list many 737s. with different series.. Flight I am looking at is Fl. 1726. I could change if I knew what aircraft to look for on Nov. 16.

You should mention that this is with Continental Airlines.

All of Continental's 737s have similar seating configurations in economy - 17.2" width and only 31" pitch (legroom) which is pretty tight.

If you're flying one way, the price differential for first class over coach is around $300. Whether that's worth it to you only you can say. Otherwise I'd try to get one of the aisle seats where the armrest retracts (more width) and I'd plan on walking around - back to the loo etc. - during the flight.

Or you could fly out of JFK instead of Newark, and take Jet Blue, which has more legroom than most of the mainline carriers.

Or you could take United with a stop in Denver, and ask for "Economy Plus" seating, which also has more legroom, but at a slightly higher price than regular coach.

And no, on CO there is no business class. Only coach and first.

Some airlines allow you to reserve (online) exit and bulkhead seats. These have much more legroom than other economy seats, plus they are next to open spaces where you can stand or walk around without bothering anyone.

The last time I flew Continental (15 or so months ago), they allowed me to reserve exit seats when doing the online checkin within 24 hours of the flight.

Sounds like loisco doesn't just need more legroom, but a seat that raises the legs, like in business class or international first class.

Most domestic first class offer a wider seat, more legroom, and a better cushion but don't offer leg rests.

A "bucket" seat, like international configured business class on a United 777 would be what she needs. It has a big recline and support for the lower legs. Those are available between IAD and LAX, but not to SAN.

There is business class available on premium service flights between JFK and LAX on United but I don't know what the seats are like. Sleepers in first class, I think.

I think that AA has some 3-cabin transcon flights. Maybe JFK-LAX?

Business class on these kinds of flights is better than first class on 2-cabin flights.
