my husband is stuck in newark...

after the redeye from honolulu and has a bad cold and is cranky and doesn't know if he will be able to get a flight from newark to providence tonight. What should he do? are there any hotels in the area that he could crash? Continental gave him $8 and thats it, and a possiblity for an 8pm flight (maybe!). He has a big job interview tomorrow that he needs to be ready for. Will continental usually pay for train/bus to get to RI if flight cancelled? will they pay for a room? I am trying to give him other options. He wants to get some sort of rest and not sleep on the floor of the airport. Thanks!

There are seats on Continental's 8:40 flight. If that is cancelled they will put him up in a hotel (assuming he is eligible for such treatment) and then on a flight tomorrow. They will probably not put him on a train or bus because that's probably more expensive and they do not have that responsibility.

I am trying to figure out from your post why he is stuck in Newark. Was a flight on Continental cancelled? Did he not have any reservation? If flight was cancelled - why. weather, equipment, flight crew, or will they not tell you. That may make a difference as to what airline will do for him.

Also curious why in the winter with potential weather delays he was cutting it so close - getting in tonight and having a big job interview tomorrow. But I probably already know the answer to that - my husband got in from Midwest last night at midnight and had to elave for an 8:30 AM meeting today.

My husband is on his way to providence from honolulu for job interview (within same company) on friday. He left last night from HNL (10:45) and got into newark at 12:40 and was supposed to take the ewr to pvd continental flight at 2:30 getting him in at 3:30 today- a full day before his interview. That flight cancelled because of fog. He has a boarding pass for tonights 8 pm flight- if it isn't cancelled. So yes he does have reservations, but will contintal do anything about putting him up if they cancel the 8 pm? Or is he destined to sleep on the floor of the airport?

Sounds like this is weather-related. CO has no obligation to give him a hotel room, though they may have some agreements with nearby airport hotels for a low rate.

Does he already have a reservation at a hotel in Providence. How important is the interview? He should have the CO find out how likely will the 8pm flight be cancelled. If there's any chance of that happening, I'd go to the AMTRAK station right now.

He can still make the 6:54pm train from the Newark Airport station, and arrive Providence 11:03pm, for just $63. That's what I suggest him do. Deal with the air ticket later on.

In case your husband doesn't know, take the AirTrain from the airport terminal to the Newark International Airport train station. Only a few minute's ride.

AMTRAK #178, Regional Service. 6:54pm Newark Airport, 11:03pm Providence. Adult fare $63, reserved coach seat.

So what did he end up doing? When I just checked Continental website, they still list the 8:40 plane as on-time - but the equipment is coming from Jacksonville, and will not arrive in Newark until about 10:30 PM - so it seems unlikely flight will fly on time or even at all.

Entire East Coast is massivly fogged in - so that is probably what the delay is all about. Good luck - if it were me, I would get a hotel room (he will have to pay, since weather is not controlled by the airline) and take first flight in AM

CO604 departed EWR 9:04p, arrived PVD 10:23p.

Looks like he should have made it to Providence.

Twould be nice if the OP furnished the exciting conclusion to this story.

Actually, I would be interested in what happened to any JAX-PVD passengers on board. This scenario does not happen that often. But hwat CO opted to do was operate the portion of Flite 604 EWR PVD as an "extra section" Flite 5604, carrying only the EWR boarding, PVD bound passengers.Maybe they didnt have any JAX PVD passengers. If there were any, did CO accomodate them at their expense, even tho they could easily declare the problem "weather related"?

I think it unlikely we'll get any followup from the O.P. She looks to be one who usually only asks for help, seldom offering any advise or opinion.

Please prove me wrong, "spooner11"!

just can't believe someone asked this question on a website. I can just imagine if my husband was in the same situation, and I said "I'll ask on fodors what you should do"..

so what happened in the end? and since the interview was with the same company, the company should pay for any expenses anyway, shouldn't they?
