Multi-City tickets and Southwest
 

Hi, we are trying to buy flights from Portland OR (PDX) to Pittsburgh, then do some traveling in the East Coast and fly home from Washington DC.

My best prices appear to be Delta on Orbitz, around $500-550 for June. Southwest could be better, but I can't figure out how to do the multi-city on their company's web page. Also, do I post the kids as adult tickets since they are the same price as adults. The options seem to be adults and senior citizens.

I had the same problem so I called them and them walked me through it one time. Since I fly Southwest so seldom I've forgotten it already!

On Southwest, each segment can be booked separately as the prices quoted is a one way fare. So, you can book from one city to another; then do the next city to the next destination.

If you have some flexibility, sign up for emails of special fares. Also sign up for DING! which has even better specials.

There are some good sales on now.

The tickets prices are the same for kids or adults. Seniors don't seem to get much of a break, the sales prices are better.

Click "Advanced Search" on front page. Then "Add A Flight" after where you put in your first 2 legs. If you want to put all legs onto the same booking. But makes no difference in cost, as DebitNM said.

Senior fares are fully refundable.

As in cash back or credit for future flight refundable??

Well, now that you ask, I've read two different things two different places on the Southwest website, so I'm going to call to ask!

This is what it says for Wanna Get Away fares: "Fares are nonrefundable but may be applied toward future travel on Southwest Airlines for the originally ticketed passenger only."

And this is what is says for Senior fares: "These fares are refundable and changeable and may be applied toward future travel on Southwest Airlines for the originally ticketed passenger only."

If there were no difference, they should read exactly the same, but they don't, so I interpret that to mean that the senior fare is refundable as in cash back. But I'm still going to check.

I asked on FB, they are really good about answering these kinds of questions. Will post back, if you haven't already done so by then.

OK - but here's the ringer - the senior fare is about $90 more per flight than Wanna Get Away fare on a sample flight that I just checked! And for DING! fares, it would be more than that as a difference. I just did another and the fare is over $135 difference. So, beware seniors!
