Mobile Board Passes--
Has anyone ever downloaded boarding passes for two people on the same device? I've downloaded the KLM app on my ipad so I can do mobile check-in but that's only mobile device we'll have (my husband and I)--so I'd have to have both passes on it.
We have a very early morning flight on the way home so it would be helpful if I could get boarding passes ahead of time (we're staying at an apartment so won't have access to a printer) I'm a total newbie about this so I apologize if this is a stupid question. |
I've downloaded American Airlines boarding passes for two people for both domestic and International flights on my iPhone using the AA App. Incidentally, when doing so the two boarding passes also automatically appear in my Passbook App.
I've never flown KLM so I can give you specifics but am guessing if you are both flying on the same Record Locator Number (PNR) you should be able to do it. |
Thanks--we're on the same file so I'm thinking it should work.

I used the KLM app to check in and get a mobile boarding pass las September. It worked really well. Since most of the other passengers on the flight (like us coming from a Hurtigruten trip) had to still check in or print their passes we skipped all that and relaxed at the gate.

Thanks hetismij2--that's good to know. Our flight is at 5 a.m. so anything I can do to save time will help.

How long will it take for you to switch from one BP to another with the app? If it takes more than a few seconds, that may annoy the security/TSA agent and those in line behind you. Same at the gate.
If it takes long or cumbersome, you can first save the BP images as screenshots, then at the line you can just open the picture album and you can swipe between the two BPs in a fraction of a sec. |
On my App it takes less than a second to switch between BP's - you just swipe from one to the other. We've done it numerous times without the TSA agent or gate agent raising an eyebrow.

As OP is going BACK to the States from Europe, it will be a bit different than at a TSA BP checkpoint.
At many airports, access to security checkpoints is controlled by automatic turnstiles. You put your BP or smartphone on a scanner and you can pass. This works perfect with a smart phone and Passbook but it could be a problem to literally fit an iPad under the scanner. Same at the gate, depends on the design of the scanners. But if automatic turnstiles are used, there is usually also a staffed access point for those who cannot use the turnstiles anyway, e.g. walking-impaired passengers. If you still have a moment to spare once you arrive at the airport, you can almost always also use the self-service kiosks that are located "everywhere" to print your individual BPs. Even if you had opted for mobile check-in and had already received your BP with your iPad. |
We're actually going back to Canada and so far I haven't ever encountered any automatic turnstiles. But I'm definitely going to get a printed boarding pass as well if I get to the airport in time (which knowing me, I will--I'm compulsively early).
I just want to download them ahead of time on the offchance that we encounter a big crowd at the airport. |
On a recent trip from Berlin to Paris I forgot our printed boarding passes at home. We were 2 friends, different names, etc but I had booked our reservation together on Easy Jet. Their website said they could not print boarding passes at the airport so I downloaded our mobile boarding passes into my smartphone app, Passbook, worked like a charm. Have used it several times now. You may want to see if you have a Passbook app, can be used for storing and retrieving other things also.

wunderbar--I've just looked for the Passbook app but apparently it's not available for ipad so I'll have to just hope the KLM app does the trick.

You're right outwest, I just checked and I guess it's not available for the iPad. In further reading it seems it was on my iPhone and since I have the apps for Air France, United, Lufthansa and Easy Jet, among others, these are linked to my Passbook.
I can't see where you'd have a problem with showing the mobile boarding pass on your iPad, but like yiu said, you should have a paper back up at least the first time. Good luck and have a great trip. |
