Mistake on Cathay Pacific airline tickets.
Cathay Pacific said that they can't correct the name on the airline ticket but can note it in the computer so I won't have any problems. I spoke to 3 Cathay Pacific reps to confirm this. My question is:
When I receive my boarding pass, well the correction be noted so I can enter the security gate? Thanks for any info. |
How severe is the mistake, and where are you flying between? How was the mistake made - did you make a typo on a website, or has a travel agent screwed up?
An incorrect title, ie Miss or Mr, or a letter or two out of place will not cause a problem (unless the ticket involves travel in the US, in which case international carriers will want everything to be as perfect as possible). If the name should be something entirely different, then you are probably buggered, as name changes are very rarely permitted on IATA carriers. If your itinerary involves more than 1 carrier (this means that you have more than one carrier on THE SAME ticket) then Cathay will not be able to amend a simple mistake in the name or it will mess up the reservation in the other airline's system. |
The first and last name are reversed.
Suppose to be like: Smith, John Doe but ended up liked Smith, Doe John. Flying to HK. Was told by 3 Cathay reps that I won't have any problems with Cathay because it was noted in their computers. But I'm wondering if it'll be a pain to go through the security check point. Both names appear on the passport. Direct flight. Went through travel agency but they won't change it because she said it's not a problem. |
In the Asia forum you said it was the first and middle names which were reversed. Which is it? Are you sure it is not you who is confused here?
|
Oh, I'm sorry. I meant the first and middle names are reversed. No, when I went to the travel agency, I got wrote it down correctly.
|
Does not sound like too much of a problem. Providing both names appear in your passport, travel should be fairly painless. CX staff will simply put in a remark for check-in that will read something like
"PAX NAME SHOULD READ SMITH/JOHN DOE MR" This is the field where res staff will put in other stuff like "PAX MISHANDLED..PLS DOAP," "SFU" (suitable for upgrade) or, more commonly, "NSFU!" so you can kiss goodbye to any chance of an upgrade! |
How long does it normally take to reissue a ticket because of a name correction?
I went back to the Travel Agent and talked to them. They finally agreed to do the name change for a $25 Travel Agent fee. They gave me a receipt (say ticket reissue or revised on it) They said they are not sure how long it'll take but it'll take longer than a normal ticket would. They said they'd have to wait for a waiver from Cathay Pacific. What does this mean? Anyone know how long it should take? It's been 4 business days already. I will call the travel agency on Friday to see what's up. Just wondering if anyone can explain to me how reissuing the ticket works. She says it's the same flight and everything. The only thing that's being changed is the name. |
The travel agency made the mistake and they're CHARGING you to correct it? That's pretty stupid of them. I'm also disturbed by them telling you the mistake "wasn't a problem". It can indeed be a problem.
