What is the MCT at JFK for transferring Turkish Airlines to JetBlue?

At most US airports, a US citizen or resident usually takes about 45 minutes, give or take 15 minutes to go through immigration, collect bags and exit customs if one has nothing to declare and isn't sent to secondary screening. A visitor can add at least 30 minutes, and sometimes up to an hour.

Once you get out of customs at Terminal 1, you can take the AirTrain over to Terminal 5. The train is frequent and takes about 5 minutes to get from T1 to T5. For this specific transfer, you can take trains on either platform, since both will get you there with 3 stops and similar distance traveled. But once you get off, it's a long 10-minute walk to get from train to Jetblue's counter - faster if you walk on the moving sidewalks.

Minimum baggage check-in time is 30 minutes for JetBlue at JFK. Of course, you'll be cutting it very very close if you get to the head of the line and drop off your bags right at the 30-minute mark, since you still have to go through security again and go to your gate.

If I am booking these flights separately, I will give myself at least 2.5 hours if US citizen, 3 hours for non. And will also do my part to get through US immigration and customs as quickly as possible.

My daughter is arriving at JFK at 1500 hours- her flight to Miami is at 1855 hours- we allowed 3 hours for immigration etc then she will have to get to t% for her Jet Blue flight- does this sound reasonable?

3 hours sounds pretty comfortable if she is US citizen or resident. Still okay, but not as comfortable if she's a visitor.

Thanks Rkkwan- she is a visitor - that is why we allowd three hours for immigration- do you thinkk it will be difficult to get to T5 in time?

US Immigration and Customs is always a crapshoot. Maybe it only takes her 20 minutes, maybe 2 hours. Nobody knows. Normally, if her flight arrives more or less on-time, it shouldn't be an issue. Domestic bags only need to be checked 30 minutes prior to departure, and if she has already done online check-in, she only needs to get to gate 15 minutes before departure.

The AirTrain runs frequently from all terminals. The longest part of her transit is the walk from the T5 AirTrain stop to the actual T5 terminal area.
