Middle name doesn't match...will this be a problem?
 

so i bought a e-ticket, and on the email confirmation thing my name says: John Smith

but on my passport/ ID it says:
John A. Smith

will this a problem if my middle initial doesnt appear on the voucher thing?

correction

my passport/ID says: John Alpha. Smith


does it still make a difference?

No.

I've flown overseas several dozen times, but only once have I been asked to put my middle name on a ticket. I think the ticket agent didn't know what he was doing when he said this was required because I've flown many times since w/o using my middle name. You'll be fine.

I just went through this same situation, except that it was my husband's first name that was omitted on the ticket. AA said it didn't matter that the ticket and passport didn't match as long as one name was the same AND my husband had other identification showing for security screening.

After seveal rounds of trying to get a real answer from the TSA I got the following message:

"If you have a paper ticket for a domestic flight, TSA suggests that passengers age 18 and older present one form of State- or Federal-issued government photo ID, or two forms of non-photo ID, one of which is issued by a State or Federal agency. There is no set list of what forms of non-photo IDs are acceptable. Passengers can present social security cards, birth certificates, or marriage licenses as long as the information on the ID corresponds with the other ID presented. For an international flight, you will need to present a valid passport, visa, or any other required documentation.



If a passenger is unwilling or unable to present a valid ID or has an expired ID (including passports, drivers licenses, etc.), the passenger is required to undergo additional screening before entering the secured area. TSA will deny access to the secured area of the airport to any passenger who refuses to undergo the additional screening."

So if the TSA says other ID is okay for security screening and the airline says the ticket and passport name can have only one of 2 given names, I hope we're okay.

Underhill, you are not guaranteed to get past the airline staff. The TSA is not the airlines.

I have used my drivers license to get through the security line for an international flight in various US airports. No ID checker has ever said "you have to have a passport to pass through security".

The airline already said they would place a notation in the reservation file about the name. The only difference is that my husband regularly reverses his two given names. They're both on the passport and his driver's license.
