Mesaba Airlines not paying new debts
When my flight on Mesaba Airlines was canceled Monday and I had an overnight delay (and bus ride to another airport), the restaurants in all three airports refused to honor Masaba's meal vouchers. They said that mesaba will not redeem them.
The motel across from the airport still honored the lodging voucher, but said they didn’t know when or if they would be paid. Keith |
Not surprising. Mesaba has filed for Ch 11, and the restaurants holding the vouchers will have to wait in line in bankruptcy court to get their money. If I run a restaurant I probably won't take them either.

There seems to be more to it than that. The same places accept NWA vouchers.

Oh yeah. I should add that NWA will definitely survive, but Mesaba may not. So the merchants will somehow get paid by NWA someday. And being at a NW hub, it's hard to NOT take NW vouchers, but they can do so with Mesaba.

Remember, Mesaba is in Chapter 11 because NWA hasn't paid them. What a mess.

One of the recent development in NWA's bankruptcy hearing is that the judge has approved NWA to return about 80-90 planes to their lessor early. That's sort of normal bankruptcy process, but of those planes - which include A320, B744, etc - the biggest portions are aircrafts that NWA's letting Mesaba fly.
It appears that NWA may just leave Masaba to die. |
