Man set world record for taking 135 flights in 1 month

Did anyone read/hear this news story? Mark Malkoff just spent 1 month living on airplanes. He took 135 scheduled flights in 1 month, courtesy of AirTran.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...ryId=106498235

With two bags of toiletries and clothing, Malkoff slept on the plane alone at night and used baby wipes to stay clean. In the morning, he'd take a jog in the aisles, then wash his hair in the airplane bathroom.

You can hear the interview by Scott Simon via the link I posted above.

The only time he took a "shower" was when he was hosed down by the firefighters on a tarmac in Flint Michigan. Let's just say I'm glad I didn't have to sit next to him.

When I break his record, I will use an airline with a lounge (with shower) at its hub.

So 5 flights a day. Doesn't seem a lot as you could knock up around 10 flights a day between London and Dublin - and sleep in a hotel each night

I think part of the goal was to spend the entire month ON the planes and not leave the airports. Plus, hotels cost money; his flights did not.

Hope that the airlines don't start thinking this way about their crews?

Being allowed to sleep on an empty plane is cheating.

I assume he slept at night on transcontinental flights; not on stationary empty airplanes.

I wondered who is that guy that can take a month off work, or maybe he's unemployed? Oh, so he is a comedian and a writer.

Comedian - this explains that subsidized month on the planes

As for being a writer... anybody red anything written by him? Anybody knew he was a writer?

Nope - to quote "Malkoff slept on the plane alone at night". Besides AirTran is a US domestic airline

alanRow - when yk says "transcontinental" flights, she mean the red-eye flights from the US west coast back to Atlanta in the east.
