Lufthansa - the soccer airline

Yesterday, I had a Lufthansa flight from Hamburg to Düsseldorf which was scheduled to be airborne at the beginning of the World Cup game Germany vs. Poland.

The boarding procedure was unusually fast, because extra personnel helped at the gate.

On board, the flight captain told us the cleaning crew was delayed by 15 minutes, but the flight crew decided to do the cleaning by themselves in order to start on time. Then we started 10 min ahead of schedule.

During the flight, we were told that the 737 flew at a speed of 900 km/h (the technical sheet says, cruising speed is 795 km/h).

Finally, we landed in Düsseldorf 25 min ahead of schedule - so everybody had the chance to see the game.

It is astonishing, what an airline can do if there is a motivation for speeding up.

Did you notice that they've painted the nosecones of some of the planes to look like fußballs? We were on one of those from Munich to Nice a couple of weeks ago.

I did - and I like the idea.

As they say in their ad campaign here in Germany: "Everything for that one moment!"

Currently there is no chance escaping football in Germany - and this is not to say that I find that a bad thing :-)
