Long layover in PHL

One week from today we will be on our way to Munich and we will have a 6 hour layover at PHL. I would like to take a taxi into the city and see the Liberty Bell and just walk around this historical city. Is this doable in the time we will have?

DH is concerned about the airport being too busy. As we know the Democratic Convention will be over by Saturday but some delegates might stay an extra day or two, hence the airport would be very crowded. We both have Global Entry so we should have TSA pre-check but I'm still concerned about availability of taxis, uber, etc.

Of course there's always the option to hang out at the Admiral's Club and drink the afternoon away. ((d))

Your thoughts are welcome.

Under normal conditions it would be do-able. Saturday it could work if you took steps such as taking the train (right outside baggage claim) to 30th Street Station and then hopped on the Market Street line right to Independence Mall. Later, you could judge the crowds as to how much time you would have before heading back to the airport the same way. (To say nothing about the cost savings!) I believe those trains run at least every half hour on Saturday.

Just checked and it is every half hour. Rather than getting off at 30th Street, you could continue on to the Jefferson Street station from which it is only a 5 block walk to Independence Mall (or taxi if you prefer).

Thanks Noflyzone, that's encouraging and very helpful.

It will be Saturday, will rush hour be bad on Saturday?
