How did you book the ticket? Through Virgin's website? BA's? Expedia/Orbitz etc? You said earlier "Although I booked this altogether..."

So go back to the booking source and tell them it's too close a connection and ask them to put it right.

I've through checked my bags on a VS transatlantic connecting with a BA intra-Europe flight. Shouldn't have anything to do with whether or not they're codeshare partners. Who told you that you can't through check, VS or BA?

Post your question on the forum over at www.v-flyer.com or on the Virgin Flying Club forum at flyertalk.com and include where you're originating from. It's my understanding that BA is the carrier that will resist through checking your bag so this may be an issue on your way home. VS seems to be very willing to through check bags. Show the VS agent your BA ticket (if you have separate tickets) and ask that your bags be tagged to your final destination. When you pick up your BA boarding passes at their transfer desk at LHR, show the BA agent your bag tags. Good luck!

My experience with BA regarding bags. They will thru check bags if your journey is all on one ticket. You often have to show them proof that it is one ticket.
When I have had separate tickets, they refused to thru-check (though they will for BA/BA separate ticket flights and are supposed to for oneworld partners).

Thanks for the advice; I will try what both of you have suggested. It is BA that is not allowing the bags to be checked through;not VA but I will try because we are all on one tix.
