Layover Time

Hi, I am planning a trip to Italy and I am looking at a flight with a 3 hour layover. The flight starts in New York (JFK Airport) on American Airlines and has a layover at the ZRH Airport in Zurich. From there i switch airlines to AirBerlin Airlines to finish to Florence itlay. I am wondering if 3 hours will be enough time to get luggage and go through customs change terminals and get boarding pass then go through security. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
MS

Sorry but I have a correction to the above I have another layover in Dusseldorf after my Zurich layover which is 1hr 35min. This flight remains on AirBerlin Airlines. Would I have to pick up my luggage again and go through customs before getting my boarding pass? and is the 1hr 35min layover enough time too. thanks.

I assume these are all on the same booking.

You won't see your luggage til you land at Florence since the bags will be checked through from JFK. You will also get all your boarding passes when you check in at JFK.

As AA & Air Berlin have an interline agreement the assumption is that it's one booking, so your luggage will be checked from NY to Florence.

You will however pass through immigration (as well as security) as Switzerland & Italy are part of Schengen.

I think the timing is OK, but isn't there a more direct way to get from JFK to Florence without making 2 stops along the way?
