why no cheap fares any ideas on getting low fares september 2003

One of my roommates just got a ticket for $203 on Alaska Airlines.IMHO,thats a cheap ticket.What were you looking for?And where?

How cheap of a fare are you looking for? I just priced LAX-YVR yesterday for Sep 21-28 and it was $172 on Alaska Air (web fare). I don't think it gets much cheaper than that. I paid $194 on UA (Air Canada codeshare) to fly the same route over Memorial day weekend and thought that was pretty good.

So why don't you buy a R/T and just throw away the return ticket?

Aha!! With a fake return that u will not use,just be sure to pick the date/time that is the least expensive to travel.Since you wont use it anywayz might as well get the best fare.

Check out whether Alaska Airlines still has it's same-day (day of flight) upgrade option. When I flew SF-Van return about a year and a half ago, I was able to pay US 50 (one-way) to upgrade to business. The catch was I couldn't be sure of the availability of an upgrade until I checked in at the airport (first come, first served). The price depends on distance. I'm not sure whether it was necessary to be a member of their frequent flyer program (I joined just before the trip). It was great, and the service was good.

its possible the portion you purchased with the intentions of 'throwing it away' can be used for future travel. in fact, im sure of it. only thing is, the value of it, less the change fee, may not be worth bothering with.
airlines dont like the fact that people do this, but they cant prove that you really werent planning to use the return.
it might be worth looking into. considering the ticket was $200, the unused portion would be roughly $100, less $50 change fee, leaves you with $50 per ticket to use towards something else. not bad.
