LAX or SFO to BKK

While we love flying Singapore Airlines everything I come up with on the Internet goes via SIN.. is there a feasible way to go to BKK via perhaps Hong Kong without landing in Singapore? Cathay Pacific? I think this would shorten the trip considerably? Thank you.

Don't know why I couldn't access Cathay Pacific before I posted.. So, a change of question.. Is Cathay Pacific decent to fly with?

CX (Cathay Pacific) has consistently ranked among the top 2-3 airlines in the world in the past decade, along with (or just slightly underneath) SQ. In most cases, you'll find the service comparable between those two airlines.

Thank you.. what do you think about the 747 versus the A340-500 for the "long" part? Do you know anything about seat pitch, etc. back in coach? Appreciate your help.

SQ's 340-500 have what they called "Executive Economy" seats. 2-3-2 seating vs the normal 2-4-2 on Airbuses, and about 3-4 inches more legroom. It's a much better product that other economy seats on any airline, including SQ's own, unless you're flying the ultra-longhaul LAX-SIN or EWR-SIN.

We flew the SQ A340-5 on one of it's first flights -to BKK and it is as advertised. They used to fly Las Vegas to Hong Kong direct which would make a much shorter overall flight to BKK. Just trying to save a couple of hours wear and tear on the posterior!!
