Latest US Air news??

The August 24 New York Times said US Air has a labor proposal out to their workforce that has serious implications for future viability of their business. This isn't anything new. My question is: we are holding 4 FF miles award trips to Europe in December from US Air and have about 100K left of their FF points. Any one have ideas about whether or not other airlines might pick up their flights or honor their points?

Washington Post Travel Section Article (you may need to register):

US Airways' Grim Warning
Chairman says its chances of survival are minimal if the airline has to file for bankruptcy again.

Sorry for the all-bold, :-[ (I was having trouble with the preview so I just posted), but that includes info on FF miles too.

Thanks, the Washington Post article said that passengers who already hold tickets should be OK as stand by. Further, they said US Air probably won't stop flying till 180 days after they declare bankruptcy, so we should OK with tickets for December. However, our remaining FF miles are probably toast. Our biggest fear is getting to Europe and not being able to get home! Thanks for your help!

gnrbernstein, thanks for that last link! That made me feel slightly better about the situation (I am holding FF tix to Italy in mid-October). Sounds like I SHOULD be safe...?!

lauralue9, I did read in another thread (of course I can't find it now) that those FF ticketholders who are mid-trip would take priority should the airline go under... (as opposed to those who have not yet started a trip, or simply have unused miles). I got the impression that as a show of good will, other airlines would step in to get those travellers home... if anyone remembers that post, please feel free to elaborate! Hopefully that alleviates your fear of getting stranded in Europe a little bit, at least. Besides, I can think of worse places to be stranded! :)

Something is funny here. I heard on our local news last night that US Air is planning to EXPAND their operations in Ft Lauderdale and use FLL as a hub to ADD flights to Central and South America!

Wow. That is really strange. Nothing like conflicting reports, huh? You never know WHAT to believe!
