Laguardia hassle?
There was some hoo-haw a few weeks ago about construction at LGA causing big headaches for travellers. Has that eased? I'm looking at flying in on Sunday, 10/23, prob using AA. Trying to decide whether I should skip LGA altogether and use Newark. Or, was the situation just media overkill and it's no worse than usual...??

The construction is visable but we had no problems getting to the airport drop off point for our airline,AA, on a Saturday earlier this month.

Thanks! Appreciate some insight.

The construction at LGA will not ease for about 4 or 5 years. It's very congested some weekdays but not always. If you are arriving or departing around rush hour traffic can add 30 minutes or more. However, at other times it's pretty smooth sailing. The real difficulty is in the taxi lines. Cabs simply aren't coming out there to the main terminal unless they have to, and lines have been horribly long. Especially on the end opposite American. You'd be wise to prebook a car service. Thus is true even on weekend days. Thus only applies to the main terminal. The Delta terminals are not any worse than usual.

Not the OP - but Thanks Doug. I arrive around mid-day on Christmas Eve so it sounds like I'd better book a car service?

Absolutely book a car service in advance. LGA should be a madhouse.

In dozens of trips into LGA, I've only ever used taxis. We landed there a little after midnight on Friday (early Saturday), along with a number of other planes that had been circling or diverted due to low visibility that evening. We got into the taxi line about 12:30 am and really couldn't see how long it was. It took us over 45 minutes to get a taxi, and there were easily 500+ people in front of us. As an aside, I'm not sure how easy it would have been for a private car to get into that melee in front of the arrivals area, either.
Next time, I will book a car service or choose Newark instead....probably the latter. |
