KLM
Has anyone used KLM to fly to Madrid? I believe they are partnered with North West Airlines. I had a bad experience with NWA on a domestic flight, but I am not sure how they are for international flights.

If you're flying KLM for your US-Amsterdam leg (and of course AMS-MAD), then who cares about Northwest?
|
Anyways, my parents fly them Houston - Amsterdam quite often. Decent flights with decent food. But on some of their planes - like their 747-400 and MD-11 (the latter on Canadian and Caribbean routes only now) - do not have personal video screens.

I presume you'll have a connecting flight out of Amsterdam if you're flying from N.America. AMS-MAD is a fairly short 2hr flight on 737. Don't expect meals--you'll get a drink.
Not sure whether your first flight (assuming you're flying from N.America) would be operated by NW or KLM. (Chances are it will be NW if you're flying out of DTW or MSP for sure). KLM long-haul is not bad. |
Even on a short flight KLM will prob serve you a sandwich and a drink. One of our recent flights was only 1 hr 10mins and we still got fed.
Can't understand why there's an alliance between KLM and NW Airlines, certainly they do not have the same standards. I flew KLM from UK to Delhi with KLM but sadly drew the short straw on the return from Mumbai and found myself on a NW flight (codeshare). It's like comparing chalk and cheese. We were offered one measly soft drink about half hour after take-off and nothing further until about 6 hrs later. Bear in mind that Mumbai is currently very, very hot and no liquids are allowed beyond the gate. The mature flight attendant serving our side of the plane was very abrupt barking "veg or non-veg" with no other explanation. Coffee was being served on the other side of the plane at breakfast but we had to ask for coffee as she just could be bothered to serve it and was clearing away while the other aisle was still being served. Just hope I never have to fly NW again. At least BA and Quantas I found were roughly on par for service and quality of food. |
I flew on KLM a few months ago - Amsterdam to Kuwait. I was actually pretty happy with them. I rated them between bombastic and not bombastic on my site www.bombasticlife.com - you can read the full review at http://www.bombasticlife.com/t_thing...s_KLM0457.html
What it always comes down to for me is would I fly with them again? yes, I would. As international flights go, they were above average. Hope it helps |
One bad flight really means nothing.
Our worst ever flight was on United... Terrible... So? Did we stop flying United? No. I say there are no bad airlines (well, in general), there are bad flights. |
KLM has really a bad reputation, they will almost certainly lose your luggage in Amsterdam, they are noptirous for their delays and bad service and poor food on board.
I was forced to fly over 200 times with them for many years, so I'm talking from broad experience here |
I agree KLM had a reputation for losing luggage but they seem to have resolved the problems of the past. I'd certainly fly with them again (so long as NW isn't part of the deal).
|
I would fly with KLM again.
BUT they did lose both of our luggage (we were on separate flights) between AMS and BCN in December. Delivered it 24 hours later each time. Last month we were stopped at the AMS runway to return to the gate because they loaded the wrong plane's luggage onto our plane and vice versa. |
