Travelling with klm delayed 19 hours. Klm said only willing to pay compensation into a eu banknaccount. This was paid with a uk bank account. Dont have one - and said if use a friends eu bank account need power of attorney for this ?? Surely can be paid back to where it was purchased?

I know people who have had KLM (and AF) EU 261 compensation deposited to US credit cards so if they can do that they should be able to do it with a UK credit card.

But maybe you should register on FlyerTalk and ask your questions there -- there are KLM experts and tons of Brits who know everything about anything KLM and compensation related.

Is this for a flight that started outside the UK hence the compensation will be in Euros? I'd talk to my bank to see how this could be done,. I've had plenty of refunds into my UK bank account from KLM esp during COVID when things were cancelled but not compensation for flight delay since before Brexit. And I have paid Euro bills/invoices from my uk bank account with IBAN details provided by the supplier etc so why would it not work the other way around, and receive Euro funds converted to sterling?

The difference may be that a refund might be handled differently than EU261 compensation since they are not refunding an original payment but paying a debt on the airline's part.

That's why I suggested you ask your question on FlyerTalk . . . there are just masses of Brits on the site and it is pretty much 100% sure that several will have had the same issue and will know exactly how to solve it.

Completely different situation - but I was once owed substantial compensation for Eurostar delays and initially they said it could only be to a UK or EU bank/bank card. After quite a bit of to-ing and fro-ing they relented and paid the compensation to one of my American cc's and the CS agent said he never recalled that happening before.

The question is about how Euros are going to be paid into a U.K. bank account. For that the OP needs to contact their bank to be told how to do that & what details are needed to be given to KLM to make that happen. It’s not a difficult question.

I know you pretty much hate it when I post and consider my advice useless/unhelpful -- but I do think my suggestion to ask the question on FlyerTalk probably will get specific advice in about 3 minutes.

KLM has given me two refunds in the past three years. Both of them went to my American Express CC, which is what I used to buy the tickets originally. I'm an American living in America and bought both sets of tickets on their website.
The first refund was a Covid "no-fly" situation in 2019 and the refund took about nine months. The second involved a visa mix-up for a flight from Poland to Canada with a change in the USA (so a transit visa was needed), and ticket cancellation by me within 24 hours. That refund only took three weeks.

The main problem with both refunds was trying to reach KLM. They don't even bother to answer the phone; a message tells you call volume is too high and you have to go to the website. I was able to figure out the process there but there was no feedback after the fact. Just "refund being processed". So I waited and the funds finally arrived.

Sidebar: About the transit visa. I booked flights for three refugees from Ukraine, from Warsaw to Winnipeg. The fastest and cheapest itinerary was Warsaw to Minneapolis on KLM, then MSP to Winnipeg on Delta. Two different Delta employees (one a supervisor) told me that there was an international transit lounge at MSP and no visa was required for that itinerary. That didn't sound right so I called the airport. Reached a helpful soul who passed me on to Customs and Immigration there. The agent was unequivocal, landing in the US like that absolutely requires a transit visa. He was friendly, just said that's how we do it. Anyway, you have to apply for, pay for, and wait for a transit visa. So I cancelled those tickets about two hours after I bought them.
