Kansas City to Munich airfare - reasonable or should we hold out?

Looking at airfare to Munich departing from Kansas City on August 25. Lowest fares available via Continental or United for $1300 pp in coach or $2200 pp business first (we're considering both options).

How does this compare to fares others have paid to fly to this region? And, what are the chances of airlines running a late summer sale?

If that's round trip in Business it's a good fare! You probably aren't going to get a "sale" on top of that. As for coach, not a clue

Hello! Thanks for the thoughts. My wife started this thread and now she's in London for work so I'm jumping in. I posted this question on flyert talk yesterday and have had 40 + views but no response. We're looking for the seats that lie flat to sleep. Doing some research, it appears that Delta BE is the best option. Here is what I'm seeing for Aircraft

Delta 130 from Atlanta to Munich (767-400)
Coming back we would fly from Munich to Amsterdam then back to US to connect to KC. The flight from Amsterdam to the US is a A33-300.

Will these aircrafts have what we're looking for? How is Delta for international travel? We've flown Continental, American and United all economy class and Continental was the best. I looked at them for this trip but seats listed don't lie flat. Don't know much about Delta. This is a tough decision because I'm struggling to decide if the extra $ is really worth it? One hand yes, the other we could put that money toward another trip or something else. Curious what everyone thinks of Delta BE etc. Thanks!

No, I don't think Delta will have what you are looking for.

Delta has VERY few planes doing trans atlantic with lie flat. I just looked on line and the direct flights I saw didn't look like they had lie flat. The lie flat seats are all in 1 -2 -1 configuration in business, I think. I am pretty sure the only trans atlantic on Delta with this option right now fly to Heathrow. They "claim" to be rolling the seats out, but it's a VERY slow roll out going to Europe (more options to Asia)

Service in BE is fine. Is it worth it? Well I use my FF miles so it's worth those, but the cost??? Not sure. As you say you can go twice as often if you sit in the back!

Have you considered looking at United "Economy Plus" might be a good compromise. More space then coach, but not as much as business. However, it costs less too.
