Just booked Miami to Barcelona on Swiss
The price was only $594, and this is no April Fool's joke! Swiss uses a Airbus A340 to Zurich. I'm leaving on Nov. 20 and returning on Nov. 29, so it will be Thanksgiving week. I plan to take the train from Barcelona along the south coast of Spain.
Can I book my seat assignments now or do I need to wait? Will I get miles with Continental? Any comments about Swiss and their Airbus A340 service?

Wally,
I like Swiss. I flew them Biz class from zurich to ord about 15 months ago. I flew the 330. The 340 is probably the nicest plane out there. Both planes have the latest and greatest technologies, especially compared to a 767.
Try seatguru or flyer talk for some info. You can also find a myriad of pictures of inside the plane if you so google.
If you have a locator number, get your seats now. The 340 is a 2-4-2 configuration. Check seatguru where to sit. There are 2 economy cabins and seatguru says that the small front cabin has more room.

Thanks. I just made my seat assignments by calling. And I was told that alcohol is still free. According to their website, www.swiss.com, they are the highest rated European airline. Tickets from Chicago to Barcelona are $511.07 so my girlfriend may join me.

Swiss is pretty decent. The A340 is comfortable. It is coach, so I would keep my expectations in check, but they are okay. Personally, I find Zurich a poorly designed airport with substandard dining options, but it is small enough that connecting won't be a problem.

I flew Cathay Pacific A340 in F 2 or 3 times.
The seats and service were very nice, but I will have to disagree about the plane being the best out there at the moment. IMHO, it's not even close.
Wally, nice fare. Enjoy your trip.

You might be able to get CO miles for this. They are promising a rapid switch to *A, but nobody will commit to dates.
The other issue may be the fare class. Swiss has some partial credit fare classes. At least within SkyTeam, such fare classes translate to zero credit with CO. Not sure what they will do for Star Alliance.
