Jet Blue/AA to Dulles
I am an AA FF, but in October I have to go from MIA to Dulles on a Wednesday and return on a Thursday evening. JB is less than $190 rt. AA is $1399 RT. I guess Jetblue will get my business. Whats the deal?

JetBlue flies out of FtLauderdale to Dulles. The FtLauderdale airport is much less expensive for an airline to operate out of than Miami. Most of the low fare carriers opt for the low cost airport as part of their business plan.Like flying into the DC area, Soutwhest flies into BWI, not Reagan or Dulles. Thus, the low fares.

FTL/MIA is pretty much the same for me. The 20 minute drive to FTL is made up by cheaper parking and less hassle at the terminal.

BeachBoi,
I don't think the $1200 difference in fare is entirely due to the higher costs of operating out of MIA vs. FLL ;) Abdre |
What are the dates? I just priced MIA-BWI dep on 10/15 ret. on 10/16 and it came back with $173 R/T.

It gets better. I tried all the Wed-Thu combinations in Oct. starting with 10/8-10/9, 10/15-10/16, 10/22-10/23 and they all came back with $173 R/T.
I don't know how you priced it, but the best way on AA.com is to do it by fare, and you should get multiple choices of flights with the above cheap fare. Good luck! |
Now that makes more sense, AAFrequentFlyer :)

If you don't have a sat night stay you are out of luck. MIA to DCA is best served by AA, but they have been asking $1300 R/T for over a year now, basically sticking it to the frequent business travelers. Therefore, you can fly UA, MIA to Dulles, used to be approx. $260 or so but is now around $700. The best fare is FLL to DCA (better airport, in DC as opposed to BWI or IAD which are very far from DC) and USAIR has this route for as low as $160. I don't particularly like USAir but FLL is a good airport although farther, but flying into DCA is much better than Dulles.
AA by far has the best routing, MIA to DCA. I flew this route for many years until the fares went up and haven't flown AA since. |
This person, jpg2esq, is going to Burke, VA, so going to Dulles makes sense. A tossup, really. jetBlue has lower costs and is more efficient than the big carriers. On jetBlue, you can fly to exactly 15 cities from FLL. Nonstop to only 4 cities American Airlines serves 17 cities in South America alone. At least a half dozen of them nonstop. Japan, Europe, all over the US. For that route, though, jetBlue is tough to beat. Buy online to get double points in their sorry excuse for a FF program. Request an exit row when you check in. Order the iced tea. |
sorry, didn't realize the traveler was going to Burke, VA. Dulles does make more sense. BWI would not. Go with jetblue.
