JAL calls it "relaxing leisure wear"

Am flying first class on JAL #5 from JFK to NRT on Wednesday and don't know, really, what to expect.

I didn't expect them to leave a message today asking me to call them back so that I can make my menu selections! japanair.com says that the "dining" is like room service. I expect that I won't be a standard service schedule, but can order up the meals to be served when I want.

As "inflight amenities" the website lists "relaxing leisure wear". What are they talking about with this euphemism? A yukata, or pajamas? Real PJs?

You are a lucky man!!! :-) You are in for a treat. The ONLY way to travel!

First you will get the new "sleeper suites", just fabulous. Very private, very comfortable. Your hardest decision will be, should I enjoy all the perks/food/entertainment(AVOD, tons of movies, tv shows, games, music, etc. all on demand) or should I just snuggle under the duvet with full size pillows om a full flat bed and sleep like a baby?

Dining will be done in style. Pick the times when, and the fabulous FAs will set up the table at the exact time, and serve the dishes as needed, not just bring the tray. Outstanding choice of wines as well as beers and cocktails. The FAs should be very accessible but not intrusive.

The best I could describe the PJs would be that they resemble a Karate outfit. Very elegant and comfortable. I usually try to get the PJs as soon as possible and change. The FAs will be be happy to take your clothes and hang them up for the duration of the flight.

Have a wonderful trip! I know you will!

Thanks, AAFF. So, you can change into the PJs? Am not at all shy but wondering how would that work? You mentioned privacy. The Skysleeper Solo seat has a sort-of nightstand with a little wall, so it looks like your view of other passengers is blocked when you are seated (or sleeping, as I definitely intend to do).

For video, they have an Eye- Trek system that looks like goggles. The picture of the Japanese full-course meal looks great.

mrw: Please put this all in your trip report. How does one change into PJs in first class? Sleeper suits and goggles? It is conjuring up some amusing images.

Cathay Pacific actually had a change room until very recently, but it was taken out. These days you just use the toiletroom. The ones in F are larger, so it's not a problem.

I do prefer the CX PJs and I still have 2 in the bag, but the JL are almost as good. I'm using one right now and I still have 1 in the bag. :-)

I called about the meal selection. It is actually for JL 006, the return. For the flight on May 26, I will be able to choose the meal that I want when I am on the plane. For travel in June (and beyond, I assume), they want you to choose your meal in advance. Choice is Japanese or Western (did I want the beef or ?). I changed my mind and chose the Japanese meal.

So, I don't know what I'm going to have for lunch today, but I know what's for dinner on June 16.
