Is this a good use of 50,000 miles?

I booked a one-way flight for my girlfriend from Chicago to Athens on Turkish Airlines in Business class with United miles. The one-way fee was only $9.40. The fees with Lufthansa flights are over $100.

The plane is either a A330-200 or an A330-300. Does anyone know?

Is the lounge near the gate in Chicago?

How is the connection in Istanbul? I've told her she has to visit the Turkish Airlines Lounge in Istanbul. Everyone needs to. It is incredible.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Well, it's a better deal now than it will be on Feb 1, when the price of that award goes to 70K miles.

There are a couple of Star Alliance lounges (SAS, Swiss) in the international terminal at ORD, but it's been a few years since I've been in either of them, and I don't know where they are in relation to the gate(s) used by Turkish.

Depends in large part on whether your girlfriend wants to go to Athens.

Careful. Greek guys can be quite charming.

I don't know about the SAS lounge at ORD, but I can say for sure that the Swiss lounge is small and gets very crowded if you are there around 5:30-7:00, just before Swiss flies to Zurich from ORD.

332, so no flat bed. Only angled lie-flats.

Thanks for the responses. Please don't tell her that it is a one-way flight.
