Is Father's Day weekend a busy travel weekend?

Just got an invitation to attend a graduation in California on Father's Day weekend. My friend told me she had a bed for me so I promised her I would come out for the graduation. I immediately started my airfare search form NY (SYR) to California (SNA). I was very surprised that I could only find 1 decent fare (BUF to ONT). I've tried multiple days and airports and Wow! Nothing gives. Not even Jet Blue. Should I wait until it gets closer to the date of travel? I know that sometimes you will see fare sales around certain weekends like this at the last minute. I also have enough dividend miles on USAIR to go RT but don't expect a seat available at this late date. I did check too. There wasn't.
Should I wait to buy a ticket? Do you think a seat might become available for USAIR dividend miles?
Thanks,
Annika

What kind of fares are you seeing? Airfare in general simply has been much higher than that in the last few years. Not much to do with Father's Day.

You may want to wait a little and then just book it as a last-minute package from places like site59.com.

479.00 RT SYR to SNA. I have tried dancing all around the dates and tried different airports as far away as ERI. Usually with that kind of flexibility I can find a great fare.
Anyway. It can't hurt to wait. I will check out site59.com.
Thanks!

try itasoftware.com I am not familiar enough with airports convenient to SYR or SNA, but I entered these cities plus airports within 75 miles. Randomly entered dates of 6/15-6/20 +/- 1 day and got airfares for $359 lowest. As I said, have no clue if these are your dates or if the airports itasoftware found would work for you, but I think you can carve a little of the $450 fare.

That said, I too am finding that airfares on routes I have traveled no longer have the bargains I was fond of. Airfares in general have crept up over the past 12-18 months and I am finding that sales are far less frequent.

I doubt your USAirways FF miles will be a help as you get closer to date. I am finding almost all trips for which I try to use my miles are forcing me to use 50,000 miles.

Probably just the cheap fares go fast in the summer.

I missed the Southwest first day of sale for September 10 and had to buy a ticket for 12th, lucky me, my dates are kinda flexible.

I saw a $418 R/T (one stop) SYR-LGB on JetBlue, using sidestep.com.

LGB is 23 miles from SNA.

AA and United are having a huge unpublished sale right now. Click on my user name and the info I posted earlier today will come up. Good luck.

Delta will get you from SYR to LAX for $350 all in, unfortunately it's a very early morning flight on the outbound and a red-eye on the return. Both flights have 1 connection. If LAX is acceptable, I would book it right now. It's not going to get any better.

Good Luck!
