Is Emirates Air too good to be true?

Emirates air now flies from JFK non stop to Milan for a very reasonable price.
Is there a problem with them or is this just a new route they are trying to sell?

They are an airline with aggressive growth plans, and JFK-Milan is a new route they are trying to sell. Introductory fares as low as $595. Likely a loss leader to garner interest.

It's not clear if they are looking to set up Milan as a European hub or if this is a one-of flight.

There are other non European airlines that fly across the Atlantic.

Singapore has had JFK-FRA flights for a long time, and with the cancellation of the EWR-SIN non-stop this will increase the importance of the FRA flights for them. I like Singapore from FRA to NY since it arrives early into NY, but I actually don't like the eastbound route for a variety of reasons.

Jet Airways is an Indian carrier with a hub in Brussels. I've used them several times and like them fine.

There are probably others as well.

Emirates happens to benefit from a low cost base and are trying to steal market share on the route. They tend to be aggressive.

They are a decent enough carrier, but their coach cabins are very tight, seating 10-abreast on the 777s on this route and they have cut the pitch back to the standard 32". There are other airlines with similar seating densities (Air France, for example) and it isn't that much worse than a 747, but it is tight and you will notice it. Personally, I think Delta's A330 layout (2-4-2) would be more comfortable in the back and I would take them if they match the fare.

DD loved Emirates..but travelgourmet makes a good suggestion about 2-4-2. Having said that $600 or less is a pretty good price and how much space might you need??? Only the poster knows!!!
