In Praise of Newark

We gripe about travel so much these days (justifiably, to be sure), so I wanted to share a good experience. I found EWR an easy airport to get in and out of last week, and people there very helpful. I was visiting family on Staten Island, and it was easy to get to the car rental, maps were good, the monorail was fast and uncomplicated, and I loved how on each platform there was someone in airport garb calling out, "Does anyone need directions?" It made the whole experience of going to a strange airport very stress-free. There is some construction there right now, but otherwise it was very comfortable experience. Also, signs for the airport are very good.

I used this airport twice, once for layover for Europe, once it was my destination. You are right, it's a "good" airport.

I use CO and EWR all the time, and this must the first time I've heard someone praise EWR. There's really not that much to like about EWR other than the showers inside Continental's President Club.

BTW, that AirTrain system broke down way too often. No fun when you have a plane to catch and that happens.

EWR is my "home" airport, and Ive never had any problems there whatsoever. Nice to hear Im not the only one !!!

(indeed; well, rather easy to please)

Thank you for your opening post and thoughts.

Must confess, not much personal praise of time 'spent' in/out EWR (always 'survived' post/current business trips), but, rather, the funded 'pot of gold' : SQ 21/22 'J', all the way, for work (and one of our current residences) in sweet Singapore. (Much more, SFO, these days, for me, flying N.A. - Asia for work.)

Thanks again, and for bringing back some sweet memories of brief post-university 'State Street' residence/working days. (Not New Jersey, mind you, but rather, Brooklyn; yes, not such a bad place.)

Savour your future EWR times, perhaps, 'J', with a certain Singaporean airline.

thats one of the first times I've heard anyone praise EWR....everytime I've flown through EWR i have a missed connection/1+ hour delay (often 2+).

then again, I did have a good burger there once....

Okay, I've been warned, this was my only time in history to have a good experience at EWR. :-)

I should have prefaced my remarks by saying that I dreaded going to EWR because I'd heard such bad things about it.

And AskOksena? I'm a Taurus with an Aries ascendant: I am very hard to please. I've been flying for almost 40 years, and when I have a good experience in an airport, it's worth noting. :-)
