IBERIA BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE

Booking a LHR > MAD > JNB and return on Iberia at a Basic+ Fare. Would prefer to NOT check luggage on any of the flight segments. They are telling me that South Africa flights have restriction of 7kg for cabin luggage which basically equates to a handbag.

I have Oneworld Emerald status which allows for carryon luggage of roller board size (20").

Are what they advising me of correct. Can imagine on long haul flight that basic roller board would not be acceptable in Economy.

Aanyone have any experience with Iberia ??

If Iberia itself is telling you that South Africa flights have a hand baggage weight limit, I'd believe them and limit yourself to a bag of that weight. If you don't then the worst that will happen is that you may be forced to check and pay for that bag. Pack so that you won't have anything absolutely essential in the bag you might need to check, and then you're covered either way.

My guess is that this is a very low fare that restricts you to an underseat carry-on, as some American Airlines fares do. It's always confusing when other conflicting statuses come into play, so you may find that you have additional privileges even with the most basic fares ... or you may not.
