i need tips for maintaining AA Platinum Status.
This year I will have flown 40,000 miles, (two transpacific flights and one tranatlantic flight). I will be 10,00 miles short of maintaining Platinum Staus for 2007. Should i stop earning miles and start redeeming them, or is it better to keep accumulating these miles

Maintain Gold (25K), and try spending for the other. For example, purchase the two Pacific tickets and then try to redeem the one for Atlantic.

Or review the responses you got to this question on the US board. In general cross-posting is frowned upon.
|
Or do some research on the AA forum on flyertalk.com. They are the experts on acquiring and preserving status in frequently flyer programmes.

Cross posting may be frowned upon on FT, but I don't think those rules exist here ;)

I hate it when my protocols get scrambled.

If you already know you will hit 40K this year, then I would get the last 10K if I was in your shoes and I had the time and resources -- but that's just me. Your redemption of miles has no impact on your status; you can use them as fast as you get them. The one consideration in that area is the fact that you won't be gathering status miles when you are flying on award tickets, so you're going to need 50K paid, butt-in-seat miles to stay plat.
