How much time shall I allow for a layover in Honolulu?
 

I will be flying either Aloha or Hawaiian Airlines from the Big Island (Kona) to Honolulu on October 13th to catch an 8:55pm flight on Delta back to the mainland. Is two hours enough to allow between flights? Or, should I take an earlier flight and allow four hours? I assume I will have to claim my luggage and check in at Delta. Delta does not have a codeshare or alliance with either of the above airlines. Can they arrange to have my luggage transferred to my Delta flight in Honolulu? If they can, is this just asking for lost luggage?

There is a separate agreement between most domestic and some foreign airlines to transfer luggage to your final destination. Delta doesn't have to have a codeshare or an alliance with Aloha or Hawaiian.

So check with the airlines all around to determine whether this will be done and the amount of time you require for the transfer. If this is done, then 2-hrs is sufficient time to transfer.

Matt....2 hours is plenty of time.However,personally I would chose an earlier flight since the 6ish flight out of Kona is the last that would allow you to connect with your 8.55pm Delta flight.I just never feel comfortable booking the last possible connection.Your luggage should be checked from Kona to your destination...Boht Aloha and Hawaiian have "interline" aggreements which allow baggage to be checked on your connecting flight."Alliances/codeshares" are a different ballgame....HTH....S

2 hrs is plenty (more than enough) if everything goes right, but I agree with beachboi about maybe booking a slightly earlier flight. In my experience, the flights between islands are often running late the later in the day it gets, because the planes are basically flying back and forth all day. I'm pretty sure you won't have to reclaim your luggage
