How Much Do You Fly?
 

Sure, many of us know a lot about airlines, but how much do you fly (in flights or miles per year)?

I'd say I fly about 8000 miles a year.

I usually log upwards of 50k miles in a year. Usually 5 or so trans-Atlantic trips, maybe 8 or so intra-European trips, and a trip or two to Asia or further afield.

About 900K since 2001.

It's all coming to a screetching halt.

I will just be the twice a year casual flyer, but have the advantage of having AA Platinum/OneWorld Sapphire status for the life of the program.

Been averaging around 90,000 BISM (butt in seat miles) for the past few years.

I feel so pathetic... :(. Still, my burning passion for travel remains :).

I once was consistently over 50K per year, and a couple of years actually went over 100K. But now as I cut back more and more on my duties, its more like 25-35K. To tell the truth, I've never really liked it, even when it was for a vacation. I've always seen flying as more of a means to an end. With all of the delays, cancellations, and time spent getting to and from airports, or worse, time spent in airports, it really isn't much fun.

Ive been premier exec on United for about the last 6-7 years. That's 50k actual miles flown minimum, per year. I've been doing a couple of trips to Europe and a couple of trips to Asia each year, plus trips within the US that add up to about 60k per year.

Not enough.

2008: 13,039mi (so far)

For those of you who have or are going from huge amounts of flying to just a little, do you feel any withdrawal from the "rush" of travel? Even if I don't love plane rides in coach, I still like the feeling of going somewhere different, seeing a new hotel (I love hotels), and so forth. Admittedly I might be less that way if I were actually traveling every few days for the entire year.

I went through a number of years when I seemed to be flying all the time, around Asia, Australia and very frequent flights to Dubai / Abu Dhabi etc. Lucky enough it was business so flew business and frequently got upgraded to First.
At the time I enjoyed, but in past perhaps 5-6 years greatly reduced, some in Asia just down to KL or Singapore and domestic but cut way back now.
Once I was paying for myself and family I had no worries at all flying Coach, not concerned the slightest not being rich enough to fly business.

Having your 'own' business changes outlook somewhat and I am really happier being at home family , friends and the dogs than flying off somewhere.

I guess it can depend where you live as to how much you enjoy 'getting away'. Living in Thailand I am where I want to be !
I do some flights down to Phuket but enjoy it more spending 2 days and driving down, it's a break and stress free. We frequently load up the wagon and head off, dogs too ! Often with extended family so it's like a traveling show!

I agree very much with what Jack said ! If you are heading off to an exciting place for a vacation or whatever that's fun, but I am real glad I don't have to do those sort of business trips now ( just once in a rare while )

Usually 70-150K per year, or 1 to 2 (domestic German/ intra-European) rt flights per week until last year. Cut down to appr. 1 rt flight every other week now, cause I probably spent 80% of the time going to/from AP, waiting for delayed flights, getting bored in boring lounges with other boring business travellers, etc.; and just 20% actually doing business at the destination.
No, no feeling of withdrawal whatsoever. The level of pleasure I feel when I have some air travel coming up equals that of going to the dentist :-)
Leisure travel is more or less limited to a 2-3 hr radius, mostly to Ireland to visit friends who live there now, or go south to Spain or Portugal.
Northern Italy, Austria, and Switzerland are more conviently accessible by car from where I live.

I do between 100k-150k annually. Most of it is from TransPac and TATL trips, with a smattering of mid-Con US tossed in for good measure.

Practically all of it is leisure but perhaps 5k of it is biz related.

I'm not scheduled to travel again until early Fall, and I'm already getting the shakes!!! :-D

Between 50k and 70k per year, including 2-3 international trips and 10-15 domestic trips. This year is likely to be on the high side.

Between 40,000 and 60,000 BIS miles per year but I count segments/flights because thats what keeps me at Premier Exec with United. However, I really hate taking 60 to 75 flights per year with a substantial portion of those in regional jets. I really work for the 1P status. (Sigh)

I usually average about 75000-90000 a year, mostly east to west coast USA. Occasionally, trips to Japan (Osaka region). Mostly business trips, but i try to have my fun when possible.

I fly between 50,000 to 75,000 on purchased tickets that earn miles. I've earned over 2,000,000 AA miles since September 1985 and most have been BIS miles plus elite bonuses. I also fly another 25,000 miles or so each year on award tickets. All of my flights have been for personal trips; I've never flown for work.

The reason I fly so little is that my flights are short (i.e. PIT-PHL, PIT-Harrisburg). I'd also say, come to think of it, I fly more in the 10K to 15K range.

While I fly much less than most on this board, (probably in the 8-10k range), IMHO a more difficult way to go is the short hops that you make, Trekker. MY BF flies every week, generally 4-6 segments, with at least one overnight, and he is constantly packing & waiting in the lounge for his flights. It must make it very difficult to be productive when your work is constantly interrupted, having to pack & unpack it so often.

About a dozen times a year with one trip being out of the country (US). All for pleasure.
