I clicked too soon,

I do get 4 weeks paid vacation, and the legal holidays plus 5 personal days off.

In Germany, 6 weeks is more or less the norm.
Plus 10-13 public holidays.
The actual number fluctuates each year as those which fall on weekends are not observed next Monday.
In average, you get around 40 days of paid vacation.

Also, many companies don't pay out overtime but have you accumulate overtime until you can take half or a full day off.
People go on vacation maybe 3 times a year, more often if you also count long weekends.

The "big summer holiday" had been 3 weeks when I grew up. Nowadays, 2 weeks of vacation in summer and winter are not uncommon. And to take 1-2 weeks off around Christmas, even if just to stay home.

As many people cannot afford to travel 40 days each year to fancy foreign places, a substantial part of that free time is also used to bridge short weeks (i.e. when one weekday is a holiday) into a full week of staying at home and do some short day trips with the kids or else.
