How important is it to have your name spelled properly?

My son just e-mailed me the itinerary, and on the US-Britain leg of the trip his name is slightly misspelled.

For example, if my name would be Fainna but they've misspelled it as Faina. One letter is missing, and his name is as unique as mine. And it's only in his first name.

I e-mailed him back, pointing out the error. What now?

Perhaps if he calls the airline, they can correct the error.

I would feel more comfortable having it fixed, just in case. My husband once booked a ticket for me as Becky vs Rebecca, and I called AA and they were very nice about correcting it.

I didn't follow up with him - he's an adult, experienced traveler, maybe just didn't read the itinerary closely as I did.

He's flying out today, if there is a problem I'll let you guys know.

Faina..you never said which airline.I'm just curious.

British... 7 hrs layover at LHR ;)

We had no problem with US Air and BA on our trip - my mom's name was Judy instead of Judith.

This subject has been discussed several times on this board. Simply put slight misspellings or using shorten names like Judy for Judith rarely cause problems. Difficulties, however, can be encountered when the wrong name is used such as "John Doe" instead of "Joe Doe"

Thank you all :)

My son is back, and he said, he didn't bother to attempt to correct his name, as it gets misspelled all the time.

Becky, it was not like Becky vs. Rebecca, it was like Rebeca vs. Rebecca. The last name was spelled properly.

Roams, thank you for your kind words, the subject may've been discussed here 1,000 times, but the other 999 times it was not my baby!

Faina....So did anyone hassle him at all? Even notice it?

mrwunrfl Aug 26th, 2008 11:44 AM

Good for you in not following up with him on it before the trip.

FainaAgain Aug 26th, 2008 11:47 AM

Nobody even noticed.
