How do you know if you are getting a good deal on airfare?

I don't travel very often so I don't know what constitutes a good price. I understand that I can compare prices at websites like Travelocity, etc. Is there another website out there that tells you the average price on airfare tix or what is considered low/high?

1. Visit a travel agent. 2. Use search and post travel details. Price will depend on many things. Season, class and location are most important.

The real key is - doing research. Check prices for your dates of travel and destination on the travel and airline sights on a regular basis so you get an idea of fare structure. When you see a fare that looks good to you - don't hesitate - book it as low fares have a way of disappearing faster than an ice cube in the desert in the middle of summer. One thing you have to keep what someone paid a few months ago or even last week has no bearing on what the fare may be when you want to travel. You just have to get a feel as to what seems good for you.

My favorite fare comparison site is http://matrix.itasoftware.com bu virtually no site lists all the possible discount carriers so if you want to be really cerain then you will need to check multiple places. Where you check will depend on the route you are flying.

"How do you know you are geting a good deal on airfare"

...you don't check the the price again after you buy it so you won't feel bad if it goes down...

Yapta is a great tool for watching airfares. I read about it the WSJ
