How do you get from one terminal to another terminal at JFK airport?

If you arrive in terminal 8 (American) and your connecting flight is out of terminal 4 (Delta), how do you get from one to the other? What about your luggage? How long does it take and at what cost?

Hi shirleyk, JFK has the AirTrain that takes you around the airport, to and from the various terminals. If memory serves me right this is a free service.

I am sorry but I don't understand your question regarding your luggage.

You take the Airtrain, which is free. There is sometimes a long walk to and from the terminal, however, so allow about 15 or 20 extra minutes to get from terminal 8 to 4.

While airlines do interline luggage transfers (there's no cost ... you either check it through or carry it), I would feel more comfortable re-checking for the flight if I had time (i.e., at least 3 hours between flights). Basically, you check in only for your American flight and then re-check from scratch for Delta.

Thank you both for your replies. So where do I pick up this AirTrain? Do you have to get to the sidewalk to get this AirTrain? Or do you get it inside the terminal?

There will be signs pointing you to Airtrain. You generally walk through a long covered walkway (usually with a moving sidewalk to help you cover the distance), and there is usually an escalator connection once you exit baggage claim up to that terminal's Airtrain connection. All terminals have this connection, so you just need to ask once you exist Terminal 8. But you never actually go outside.

dear shirleyk
as I have understood it is not free anymore but it only cost like 5 bucks fo further infromation please take a loock at this page: http://www.panynj.gov/Airtrain/
you can also print a brochure to take with you here: http://www.panynj.gov/Airtrain/

No, analau, that is absolutely incorrect.

The only charge for the Airtrain is if you take it to and from the Long Island Railroad or to and from the NYC subway.

If you are traveling within the airport, then the train is absolutely and positively free.

Doug is correct. The $5 is if you connect to LIRR or subway at Jamaica or Howard Beach stations.
