Avios on long haul economy flights are generally pretty useless especially out of season (as most of you seem to have found out) great though if you want to fly long haul in the middle of the summer holidays when prices are at their peak!
Best value would either be Business/First and pay in the region of cost of an economy ticket! or buy a ticket in WT+ (Ba's Premium Econ product) and upgrade with Avios to Business
Only the most expensive WT tickets are upgradeable to WT+ whilst all WT+ tickets are upgradeable to CW
