How did you do in 2010?
I asked how everybody did in 2009 a year ago, and got some great responses:
http://www.fodors.com/community/air-...do-in-2009.cfm
So, how did everybody do in 2010?
Great flying year for me. And I just got out of NYC today. Miraculously, my flight arrived Houston on-time, despite all the snow.
Total mileage: 89,400 (previous record 58,800 in 2009)
Total flights: 44 (previous record 32 in 2009)
New airports: 10 - CSX (new one), LHW, XIY, CKG (new one), LXA, XNN, GVA, ZRH, LIH, PER
New airline: 1 - YV (Mesa/go!) which canceled my flight in 2009.
New plane type: 3 - E190, A333, B77L
Full body scan: 1 - @ ATL
Very excited about some of the new airports I visited this year. They include the western most (LIH), southern most (PER, my first time in the Southern Hemisphere), and highest (LXA, 11,710ft/3,570m) I've ever flown into or out of.
Of the flights, HNL-LIH are the shortest in duration that I've personally timed. 22 minutes, both direction.

2008 and prior - UA1P and HHilton Diamond for several years
2008 - 61 flights UA1P for 2009, HHilton Diamond
2009 - 31 flights UA2P for 2010, HHilton Gold
2010 - 7 flights dirt everywhere in 2011
With the new TSA procedures I have given up flying anywhere unless I have to be somewhere and I have no other choice.
(sigh)

This has been a weird flying year for me—quite a few “new” things but fewer miles flown than the past several years. I have one more flight this week, so accounting for that:
BIS miles: 51,465
Elite qualifying miles (UA): 55,958 (difference is a couple of SAS flights that earned 0 or 25% miles; one UA flight rebooked in full-fare Y at 150% EQM; and a 5,000 elite choice EQM award)
Segments: 38
• 25 United (4 international/21 domestic)
• 2 Lufthansa
• 3 Turkish
• 3 SAS
• 1 US Airways
• 4 Continental
New airlines:
• Turkish
• SAS
• Continental (I think; I have a vague recollection of flying CO about 20 years ago, but the route/aircraft type doesn’t make sense…so I’m counting it as new for now)
New airports:
• IST, Istanbul
• NAV, Nevsehir (Turkey)
• PDX, Portland (OR)
• ABQ, Albuquerque
• OSL, Oslo
• BGO, Bergen
• CPH, Copenhagen
• MID, Merida (Mexico)
Upgrade record:
• 4/4 on United international (SWUs or miles)
• 16/21 on United domestic (500-mile certs or UDU)
• 3/4 on Continental (EUA, as a United 1K)
New aircraft types:
• None really, unless you count different types of 737s—then 738s/739s
Top route:
• ORD-PHX, 5.5 times—and certain to increase in 2011
First full-body scan:
• ABQ in September (departing the Fodor’s GTG, of all things!)
Other “firsts”:
• Lost luggage for more than a day: 24 days—thanks, Turkish (not!)
• Weather-related cancellation and overnight in NYC on very short notice at my own expense; will think twice about doing a same-day mileage run, again
I made sure to fly enough to hit Premier Executive/Star Alliance Gold for next year, but I’ll miss being a 1K. For family and work reasons, I just didn’t have enough time to work on that during the last half of the year. Of course, not having a double EQM promotion in effect for six months out of the year (like last year) didn’t help.
I also hit lifetime Gold on AAmerican this year—without flying AA or any oneworld airline during the year.

Wow! I've not 'studied' my miles to see just what I did that might be new/or different.
I flew just over 104,000 miles on UA so I'm maintaining my 1K status... and that's even with several long haul trips that I did in first class free with miles. Not nearly as many segments at a lot of you, since most of my travel is long haul. 2010 included two trips to Europe, four times to Bangkok, once to Sydney, twice to Florida, once to HNL and I added Kona to that trip, and once to Boston, and once to Las Vegas. I also did two mileage runs from ORD to LGA that earned triple EQMs. That's about it...
I think the only new airports for me were Kona and Amsterdam.
It was a good year for travel. 2011 will hopefully be just as busy! It's mostly for pleasure, and all of it is on my own dime. Being retired leaves me with time to travel, and I do enjoy it tremendously.
I'm doing this reply from a lovely Bangkok! Sawasdee Kah!

I flew 121,000+ paid miles on AA, plus two free trips and some trips on other airlines where AA does not fly.
Unfortunately, I developed deep vein thrombosis and ended up in the hospital with pulmonary embolus. For those of you who fly a lot, I found out that it IS important to get up and move around every hour (which is what I'll be doing in 2011)and that DVT isn't something that just happens to other people.

Not good.
BIS miles: 22,348
no new airports
1 new airline: Iberia (yuk)
After being PLT on AA for the last 5 years, I'm dropping to GLD starting Feb 2011. To me GLD is pretty much useless. I did burn a bunch of upgrade stickers while I was PLT so DH & I flew domestic First on 2 AA flights. I also used 40k miles for an economy r/t to London.

Wow, lcuy, good for you! I like your list of modes of transportation other than the jets you flew long haul.
Updated total EQMs for me after last flts cleared: 105,908
Off to a good start in 2011, with flt BKK-ORD in a couple of days, then ORD-LAS shortly after that; ORD-TPA February, ORD-ZRH March, and just booked ORD-BKK for April!

A fairly ho-hum year for me:
Total mileage: about 72,000
Total flights: 32
New airports: 4 (BJX - Leon/Guanajuato, UIO - Quito, DAY - Dayton, ORD - Chicago)
New countries: 1 (Ecuador)
New states: 2 (Ohio and Illinois)
Elite status earned via bum in seat or body in bed (i.e., not supplemented by credit cards): 1 (Gold with OnePass)
Awesome Upgrades: Presidential-type suite at the Hilton in Sao Paulo, suite overlooking ocean at Copacabana Palace in Rio, a suite for me and one for my boss at the JW Marriott in Miami (but no op-ups on flights)
Trips dedicated to enjoyable self-improvement: 3 (studying Spanish in Quito and Guanajuato, walking the 12K Bay to Breakers in San Francisco)
Dive trips: 0
Ratio of business class trips to economy class trips: 3:1
Full body scans: 2
Major delays: 1 (return trip to NYC post-Christmas)
Most trips through Immigration in a single day: 3 (twice through US Immigration in YYZ and once through Canadian Immigration because our original flight was cancelled and we had to pick up our bags landside and go through the process again)
Items lost on planes or in hotels: 1
One of these years I would like to break my old record for most number of countries in a single day (counting only countries where I actually stood on the ground outside an airport or train station): 4 (woke up in the Netherlands, travelled through Belgium but stopped for a meeting, arrived home in France to pick up husband and flew to Norway for a holiday weekend)

Philadelphia airport still a nightmare. Travel from PHL to Anchorage in Aug, plane out of PHL delayed 5 hours then 4.5 from Anc to Phl on return, waiting for plane to get in from PHL.
We can nearly always count on delays in PHILADELPHIA. We really like USAir but have to go thru PHL to go anywhere.

We just got back for a 36 day trip. Kansa City, MO to Venice 1 week, left Thanksgiving, then on Dec 2 took Costa 20 day cruise to Argentena. Dec 22 flew south to El Calafate and saw the glaciers. Then on South to Ushuaia, Argentina (Southern most city in the world) to walk among the penguins. Then back to Buenos Aires for a 5 days. Returned home on Jan 1. Planned it all myself and everything worked great. Side trip to Marrakech, Moroco, Rio De Janeiro, Barcelona, etc. Repositioning cruises are really cheap. The air fare will kill you...
