Hi

I am trying to figure out if the actual plane that I will be flying on (AA 1013, Boston to Aruba, approx 10 am departure) is coming in that morning from another city (if so, what city) or if the equipment is overnighting in Boston prior to the next day's departure.

Is there any way to find out this information?

Virtually impossible due to fleet rotations. Since it's shown as a 757 it could be from Miami the night before, or one of the redeyes from SFO or LAX, but anywhere is really possible.

For this morning (12/13), this 752 came from LAX, and used gate B31.

For 10am departure, it's highly unlikely that the plane will have been in BOS overnight.

I use the gate information on flightstats.com. Pick BOS, 9a-12n departure, AA; and compared to arrival 6a-9a.

One can also check flight status on aa.com flight by flight, but that'd take a lot longer.

Except the LAXBOS redeye is transitioning to 763 service (effective, like, today) so no way will the LAX heavy continue to AUA.

I suspect it will be either the SFO redeye or the aforementioned MIA plane.

Today's AA1013 departed from B34. Last night's AA264 LAX-BOS arrived at that gate at 9:44p.

So, I was wrong that it won't be a plane that overnights at BOS.

Yesterday's AA1013 also departed from B34. It used a plane that arrived from SFO at 7:51a.

Which means Gardyloo is correct again. It can be from anywhere.

It used to be the case that aircraft were used on a regular rotation: if the aircraft for the BOS-AUA flight came from LAX one day, then BOS-AUA would almost always be the same plane as the LA flight. That's because the scheduling was done more or less by hand.

In the past 2-3 years, scheduling has been done using extremely sophisticated scheduling software that figures out the most efficient way to allocate aircraft. That software can also reschedule everything whenever there's an irregular op (unexpected mechanical issue, weather, etc).

Thanks for the responses. They were very educational. It appears as if all the red-eyes into BOS were canceled last night in anticipation of weather this morning in Boston- so the Aruba flight was cancelled today.
