Heathrow arrival/deparure

When negotiating Heathrow on a B/A flight. Lax to London
Owing to dealing with Claustrophobia, is it possible on arrivals and departures to get to assigned gates etc without using a lift or transit train
do not mind walking
possibly a strange question but would really like some help on this issue. Thank you

Much depends upon which gate. See the attached link, extract below. Perhaps ask BA. I am pretty certain that the lifts are avoidable as there is also escalator access, but it seems from the wording below that you may arrive and depart from B orC gate and may need to use the transit system (train)

Terminal 5
All gates in the main terminal ('A' gates) are approximately 400m (about ten minutes) from security. Gates in satellites T5B and T5C ('B' and 'C' gates) are 600m (about 15 minutes) from security (via transit system). Domestic and EU flights usually depart from 'A' gates, other international departures from 'B' and 'C' gates.

Gates are really not announced/displayed until the last minute when it is time to start the trek to whichever gate it is. Unfortunately there is no answer to you question since the gate could be anywhere. However, BA. Has a very helpful 'accessibility' contact you can call and discuss your issues and see if they can offer assistance. I'm at LAX just now after having flown in from LHR, awaiting my next flight. When I get home I'll see if I can find the contact information.

Here is the link to BA special assistance: https://www.britishairways.com/conte...est-assistance

They have a team you can reach via phone or e-mail.
Telephone: 0800 408 1100 Monday - Saturday: 08:00-18:00
You may not need the typical sorts of assistance but they can at least offer you suggestions and specific info re LHR/Terminal 5

I've found that BA flights from LAX go into terminal 5, C gates, in general. It could all change on the day, though. We get wheelchair assistance, and we get transported by golf cart in long underground corridors, which wouldn't help the OP's claustrophobia.
