Has anyone had FF accounts successfully merged when airlines merged?

Despite repeated phone calls to both America West and USAir when they merged, and assurances the miles would "just transfer" from AW to USAirways, they did not.

Can not possibly see how they would "just transfer" since they would have no way of matching one customer with customer on other airline. Finally gave up since miles were not that many.

However do have fair number of miles on NWA that would be useful in the DL account. Any suggestions so we and they get it right this time.

Yes, when TWA and American mereged, my miles transferred to American. I recall that I had so many months to request the transfer.

I recall receiving a letter from American Airlines when they acquired TWA on how to transfer. Had to sign a form; no problems and the process was quick and easy.

I too had my TWA miles absorbed by American Airlines when TWA went out of business.

Similarly, I had an option from Pan Am to transfer my miles into American Airlines or Delta.

It seemed like a fairly routine transaction ... in those days.

USAir and America West had some some issues with merging their information systems. The folks at DL/NW who will hire the integrators for their system would do well to find out who did it for (or "to") USAir and then not hire them.

I hope it works out as easily as it did for first respondents here - DL flies from Boston to college-bound dtrs airport and I would love to capture a couple of free trips out of this merger.

I also had TWA miles which went into American, and I used them very quickly for a free Vegas ticket!

I too had TWA miles move smoothly. But, I must say I'd rather have TWA back. The loss of their wonderful Trans-Atlantic service has been great. I long for those days.....does anyone remember the piano bar on the 747's????

Yes, the TWA transfer did go smoothly and instead of partners like Royal Jordanian and Air India (and not much more at that point) they all went to the much better AAdvantage program and I used them up on Japan Airlines in F.

My America West and USAir points were merged without my asking them to do it. I must have been one of the lucky ones.

luvtotravel - do you have any idea how they did that. Did you get email, letter asking for numbers. They certainly cannot do it just by name, or if they did then someone else got my husbands points (very common name)

gail -- I don't remember doing anything. I flew USAir so infrequently I had to search for my account number. I had both FF account numbers saved in case I needed to contact them, which I was sure I would have to do. But the points just appeared in my USAir account.
