Frankfurt Connection Question (forgot to tag earlier)
Thu, MAY14 UA8837 T CHICAGO, IL
(ORD - O'HARE) 4:05 PM FRANKFURT, GERMANY (FRA) 7:15 AM (09MAY) Flight operated by LUFTHANSA. If this is an originating flight on your itinerary, please check in at the LUFTHANSA ticket counter. Fri, MAY 14 UA9072 T FRANKFURT, GERMANY (FRA) 8:25 AM BUDAPEST, HUNGARY (BUD) 10:00 AM A-320 Snack Flight operated by LUFTHANSA. If this is an originating flight on your itinerary, please check in at the LUFTHANSA ticket counter. I booked thru UAL but both flights are Lufthansa. United told me 1 hr 10 min wouldn't be a problem on connection. Will we have to go thru customs in Frankfurt ? If so we don't need to get our bags and recheck them do we? If they are both Lufthansa, will the gates be near each other? This is really stressing me. Thanks for any & all help. Anne |
I guess I meant do I have to go thru Immigrations in Frankfurt. Thanks

Hungary is in Schengen, so you'll go through passport control at FRA and bag claim/customs at BUD. The timing is tight but doable. As for the gates being near each other, probably not, FRA is huge and Lufthansa is its biggest carrier by far. Just refer to the many monitors for gate locations. You inbound flight might have connection announcements before you land.

If for any reason you miss the 8:25 flight to Budapest, Lufthansa has several other flights to Budapest that day, and they'll put you on the next available flight.

We're making the same itinerary the end of March, however we were booked Chicago-O'Hare to Brussels. Our layover to BUD is about 2 hours.
Call United Airlines and see if they can change you to Brussels, Amsterdam, Zurich or Munich in order to get another hour on the ground--for free. Frankfurt and Paris are not the airports you want to have really short layovers in. |
Doable, but you will have to be fast. If there will be a delay for 15 or more minutes on your first flight, you will miss your connection. I am a frequent traveller transferring at FRA often (US - European cities route), have tons of experience with FRA.
It will not be the same terminal. You will need to do immigration, but not customs - in Europe you do customs at your final destination. Immigration is usually fast. So basically, if you don't get lost and your first flight is on time, you should be just fine. |
