I am planning a trip to Europe and need to know if Lufthansa and United are in the same terminal. I would have a flight on Lufthansa departing Houston and landing in Frankfurt and a connecting flight on United to Prague. I would only have an hour between flights so I really need to know how close these two airlines are at this airport. Same terminal should be ok but if I have to traverse to another terminal that might be cutting things too close especially if my Lufthansa flight is late arriving in Frankfurt.

Last September arrived in Frankfurt on United from Newark changed to Lufthansa to Budapest and on return Prague to Frankfurt on Lufthansa then back to United to Newark.
Probably the worst connection we have ever done.
Frankfurt is notorious for total confusion.
And we had about 90 minutes connection time.
We ran around like idiots, nobody gave us the correct information, everyone sent us in different directions....
but we made both connections only because there were six of us and we did it through our own sign reading.We had to take a bus to a different terminal.

I totally agree, FRA is very confusing (and BIG). We were very fortunate that when flying into FRA on Thai (1st class) an agent met us at the plane and got us thru all the customary procedures and then led us to our UA gate, and also got us (quickly) into the appropriate lounge where we had only about 15 minutes to get coffee/drink and use the WC. You need plenty of time in FRA airport!!! I would not want to do a transfer with less than two hours. That's just my experience.

The flight from Frankfurt to Prague is on Lufthansa; United does not fly that route.

1 hour is almost always enough time to make a LH -> LH connection in FRA. However, if you miss the connection, LH will put you on the next flight.

Yes, as DonTopaz suggests, make sure you are actually on a United rather than a Lufthansa codeshare flight.

Both airlines fly into the same terminal for their EWR flights, but I'm not at all sure about intra-Europe flights.

I also find the airport big, but I've never found it as confusing as some posters have. I had no problems making my connection there in less than 90 minutes, though I don't recall whether I had to change terminals or not. But I don't recall this being difficult or confusing. The airport has an online guide to transfers that you can refer to on its web site.

As a Oneworld person I use FRA only rarely; however in a Lufthansa > Lufthansa transit (SEA-xFRA-EDI) last month the EDI gate was changed <i>twice</i> in two hours, the last time 40 min. pre-flight, and of course the two gates were a kilometer apart. Gasp, pant, pant. Himmel.

Have made connections easily in FRA going from UA to LU flight and then vice versa. I don't find the terminal confusing, big, but good signage.

UA doesn't fly intra-Europe. You're connecting LH-LH.

I guess you're coming in on LH441 at 9.00 am and continue on UA9060, departing at 10.10 am.
UA9060 is a codeshare flight operated by Lufthansa as LH1394.
The following flight to Prague is LH1396 (UA8733) departing Frankfurt at 12.10pm.
Keep in mind: you have to clear passport control in Frankfurt. Since LH441 is on an A380 you may be parked at a C-gate which is quite a walk to your departure gate, most probably from A.

Do you mean going from a C gate to an A gate one has to pass thru security (when you say passport control you don't mean customs and immigration I assume)

Since Frankfurt is your port of entry to the Schengen Area, you will have to go through immigration (Passport control) and customs. Then you have to go to the A gate to catch your flight from FRA to PRG.

Is that right? I have to go thru customs and immigration even though I'm connecting thru to Prague? That does not seem right. Why would I have to go thru customs and immigration if Frankfurt is not my final destination and as well I'm connecting on to another country. Seems to me that I would pass thru customs and immigration when I land in Prague?

Ok I have talked with United and,as odd as it seems, yes I have to go thru customs and immigration when I land in Franfurt and then catch my connecting flight to Prague which means I need to allow at least 2 hours between these flights or more!

The Czech Republic is in the Schengen zone, so you will go through <i>immigration/passport control</i> at Frankfurt and <i>customs</i> at Prague.

Thanks- the Lufthansa people have indicated that Passport control is close by and I do not have to leave the secured area so it should not take long.

Glad you are considering allowing the two hours between flts, Bill. I've flown through there a number of times, and now I "know from my own experience" to allow plenty of time.

Under normal operations, both flights will be handled via the A/Z gates in Terminal 1.
A/Z is in fact one "V" shaped councourse with two piers - A gates are on ground level for intra-Schengen flights, Z gates are on upper level for others, like to/from the US.

Nevertheless, you never know if your flight on that specific day may not arrive out of the norm at the other councourses B or C, so allowing those two hours transfer time is not a bad idea.
On a "normal day" the transfer is now much more easy and less of a trek than in the old days.

I just connected through FRA this past Sunday morning. I was once again very glad to have a 2 hour connection time!! I had to go through security, take a train, and walk what seemed like miles! No lounge time... ugh. The lounge was NOT close to my UA departure Z gate. BTW, I was coming into FRA on Thai from Bangkok.
