Flying Midwest Airlines?

I'm looking to travel next April 2009 but I'm not sure if I should wait to see if better deals come along closer to April or buy now with the assumption that fuel prices will only go up. I've found a good deal on Midwest Airlines but I've read articles that Midwest may be filing bankruptcy. If they file bankruptcy, am I out money and a flight?

If you found a good deal, I'd go for it. Even if they go into bankruptcy, it will probably be reorganization and will keep flying.

If you pay with a credit card, you should be able to get your money back. At least we did when ATA went under.

All airlines are so "up in the air" right now!

I would be only concerned if the flight was one of those served by an MD-80. It looks like Midwest is dropping them from its fleet.

YX sent out a letter to its employees today that they'll cut 1,200 jobs, or about 40% of their workforce.

Midwest may still be around come next April, but your route may not be.

I am booked from Mke to Denver on what now appears to be one of the dropped planes. My itinerary notes MD81 so I assume it's all the same thing?
I've tried to call them but I get a message to the effect:" We don't have final plans yet".
I don't know how this plays out...I know I don't like the sounds of things and when the economy is so bad people can't even plan vacations statements like this :"I'm not an economist, but I do believe we're growing," from this prez makes my ears bleed.

jette, when do you fly?

It looks like the changes will be after the summer.

I'm booked Sept 10-16.

Is that after the summer?

I hope I get some information sooner rather than later. If I have to try and rebook on another carrier I'd like to know soon.

Midwest said this week that they will have their final plans out next week July 21-28.

They are not going to use the larger planes due to oil prices but some of those flights will still be going with a stop for refueling the smaller plane.

I have found with Midwest the closer it gets to the date you want to fly the prices go up. The price can change from day to to day so if you want a flight with Midwest and find a good price - take it - it may not be there tomorrow. You also have the option of holding that price for 24 hours while deciding if you wnat to buy.

You can sign up for emails on specials they run.

Midwest announced its schedule changes. You can find them at this website.

So it looks like I only have a change in the plane type that will be used. Still nonstop Mke to Denver! Yeah!!
