Flying from US to Asia via Amsterdam, afraid will miss my flight

Hi,

I am flying back and forth from Dallas to India via Amsterdam and I have only a 55 minute layover. I am afraid I might miss my flight, which may or may not be a very bad thing. I just want to know that in case I miss my flight, can I get a transit visa in Amsterdam to go view the city or do I have to sit at the airport for whatever time it takes them to get me on the next flight out?

Can I get a visa before hand, just in case?

Thanks

Virtually this same question (55 minutes in Amsterdam) has already been asked on this forum. Scroll down a little and you should easily find it. Actually, I'll top it off and it will come back to the top of the list.

No point to repeat the same information again.

The OP's question is mostly about a transit visa - not just whether 55 mins is long enough. I personally don't know the answer to that, but maybe someone else will.

Jaya: Just an FYI -- when you want to lead someone to another thread it works better to just post the link (instead of topping it) since a topped thread may drop quickly and no longer be easy to find when the OP returns.

This is the link to the thread you wanted

I think the answer depends on your citizenship. I wouldn't think a US citizen would need a transit visa, since he can enter Amsterdam with the automatic 90 day tourist visa.

I read the 55 minute thread, my question is the opposite actually. What if I do miss my flight? Can I go tour the city until my next flight? I am an Indian resident and I do need a visa for the three month visit, I actually wanted to know about the Type B Visa for 5 days. A lot of countries issue those at the airports itself for passengers who miss their flight and the next flight is not until the next day. Does Netherlands do that? If not, is there a way to get that beforehand, because I checked for the 3 months visa, you have to show travel documents, flights and hotel reservations etc, which I do not have. Thanks
